Tree of Life

Humanity is connected through a network that may be thought of as The Tree of Life

Humanity is connected through a network that may be thought of as The Tree of Life

Many spiritual traditions speak of the Tree of Life. For example, the Bible speaks of it in Eden, in Islam it is known as the Lode Tree and of course Buddha sat beneath the Bodhi Tree where he attained his great enlightenment. The tree is a powerful metaphor and archetype throughout spiritual teachings and I have wondered why that is for some time.

Recently, I had a meditation experience that may have answered the question for me. I never say that things are answered for sure, as certainty stops questioning and the potential for growth and learning. Yet it fits in so many ways and I feel strongly that it speaks of the truth.

I was practicing one of the spiritual connection meditations from our book, Nourish the Flame Within, specifically the third in the first series, Connection to the God Force. My experience was that I was a leaf on a tree and that if I allowed my awareness to remain restricted, I was only concerned with my own world and my limited perception. As I allowed my awareness to expand, I became aware of the leaves around me (perhaps a metaphor for family and friends?). Later, my awareness spread to the smaller branches and then the larger ones. It felt like I was connected to community and nation. Eventually, my attention spread to the trunk, the concept of Humanity. Fully aware, I could feel the flow of energy from leaf to trunk and back again, sensing my place and role in Humanity, nation, community and self. It was an amazing experience.

So, the Tree of Life, or the Tree of Humanity, shows that we are an inter- connected whole, each of us playing a significant role. Each one of us feeds the whole and is fed by the whole. Just as the leaf turns sunlight into food for the tree and the tree brings nutrients and water from the ground through the trunk and branches to the leaf, your very existence fuels humanity, while humanity gives you what you need to be your full and magnificent self. Actions of the individual affect all of humanity. This is how a tree works. This is how humanity works. Even though you may not know what good or harm you are doing spiritually, you are affecting things in a small and significant way.

Beyond that, the metaphor allows us to see how broadly the Tree of Humanity is inter- connected to the Universal Whole. Nothing exists in isolation. Water and nutrients in the soil are drawn up by the tree, while ultra violet light from the sun is used to create food in the leaf. Every cell of the entire tree benefits from this two- way relationship. Spiritually we are the same. We are nothing without the power from the earth and the sun. We are diminished versions of ourselves if we isolate ourselves from the Universal Energy of White Light. We are nothing without each other collectively.

Many spiritual teachings show us that an act of kindness is kind to all humanity and that an act of hatred and fear affects all humanity. I am beginning to understand this wisdom. It is easy to become disconnected again after the meditation. The truth is you are always connected, to humanity, the planet and the universe. The meditation is an invitation to become sensitive to this truth and carry it with you throughout your day, to inform all your actions, decisions and thoughts. So many of us seek peace in society and in our own hearts. Perhaps this is one of ways in which we can bring peace to ourselves and those around us. In time it will spread. For now, let us begin with a simple meditation, which starts with a simple breath and an invitation to connect to White Light.

Meditation

Meditation is a beautiful practice. It can do so many things for the person. There are many reasons to learn to meditate. Meditation can be used for the enhancement of health, emotional balance and life awareness amongst other things. In the West we do not have a culture of teaching or appreciating this beneficial practice. We are largely skeptical and suspicious of it. We often view it as something a bit wacky and “out there. It is something that is not commonly of our culture and seen as a bit pagan even. It is none of those things as it is a very useful tool. I am a meditation teacher and a Hypnotherapist amongst other things and it surprises and saddens me when I come across these views of meditation or even Hypnotherapy. Meditation and Hypnotherapy are very similar practices. They both employ deep relaxation of the person for the enhancement of health and well-being.

We can all meditate as we all go through the place of meditation each time we go to sleep. So we can all do it. People over think what is needed and put a lot of does and don’ts on the practise of it and often make it too complicated. They also try to analyse the process whilst doing it and that should not be done. That will make the process very difficult.  Keep it simple and know that it is just deep relaxation without going to sleep.

Relaxation methodThinkstockPhotos-521855347

Before starting to meditate find a safe and comfortable place. You do not have to adopt any kind of complicated posture. Just sit or lay comfortably in a chair, on the floor on a bed.

Go down into relaxation breathe deeply to a pattern of three. So breath in 1, 2, 3 hold he breath 1, 2, 3 and slowly breathe out 1, 2, 3. Keep doing that until you are very deeply relaxed and then follow the instructions on the meditation. May I suggest you record the instructions in real time on a voice recorder and then listen to it? You have to allow yourself time to go down into relaxation and that generally will take ten minutes. Talk yourself into relaxing by saying things like relax your feet, your legs, your arms etc. Take your time and realise that it will take you time to gain a deep relaxation. You could practice on a friend first before recording to see how long it takes you to get them to relax. They key to relaxation is the breath.

Make sure you do not listen to the recording whilst driving as you will be going off to sleep and that will be dangerous to do. This may seem like the obvious but you will be surprised how many of my students and clients say “oh I can listen to this in the car.” No you can’t.

If you need further instruction on meditation then purchase Nourish the Flame Within and it will give you more instruction on it.

Universal connection through this meditation

This meditation does what it says and it will help to change the person’s outlook.  They only have to do the meditation a  few times. Even just doing it once will change a person to a degree. It connects you to the universal forces and just by doing this meditation those forces will balance the person and they will gain an enhanced perspective on connection as this meditation is for that purpose.

Teaching

If you are a meditation teacher and have violent or aggressive pupils this maybe a meditation to give them as it should have a calming effect on them. Any one of that imbalanced state should gain great benefit from this meditation. It is also good for anyone who just wants to enhance their connection to others. This meditation helps the person to feel others on a deeper level that they do at present. This is the meditation to do to enhance connection to the rest of the human race. There are many reasons to want that. To be more in tune with the rest of the human race as a collective or people as individuals can only be a good thing. Anyone dealing with people on a collective or one to one basis will gain great insight and benefit from this meditation. That has to be just about all of us. The insights may take many forms and will be individual to the individual doing the meditation. This meditation connects you to everyone. Well that is not strictly true as you are already connected, what this meditation does it give you deep insight into that connection on a intellectual and energetic level.

Meditation 2: Connecting into Others and Knowing their Needs.

  1. Take yourself down into relaxation. Now take many shallow slow breaths.

Concentrate on the rhythm of your breathing. Know your own breath pattern. Listen to the rhythm of your own breath. Feel the calmness feel the beauty of each breath.

Know you are an individual.

Know that you are not separate.

Know that you have connection to others of your kind.

You are human and of the human kind.

Know that you have brothers.

Know that you have sisters.

Know that you are one of many.

Know that you are not alone.

  1. Now bring white light energy into your body. Bring in the source. Ask for the hand of God to guide you. Connect to all that there is.

Send out the vibration of healing. Know that it is in your power to do so. Send out to your brothers and sisters. Understand their needs.

As they hurt, so do you.

As they bleed, so do you.

Send out the ray of compassion; send out the ray of love.

Bring your attention to your own body. Now connect your spirit to others.

Understand that you are one of many.

Understand that you are connected at source.

This is universal law. This is universal truth.

Now send out the vibration of connection. You know this connection on a soul level. Send it out, and stay aware and connected. Walk with your brothers as one.

From this moment on, understand all that is.

Understand you bleed as they do.

Understand you are one of many and walk together as one.

  1. Now feel the thread of connection and hold in that place for ten minutes.

Now let the connection slowly diminish. However, always hold this knowledge.

This meditation changes you for all time.

Come back to the here and the now.

Heart Energy

ThinkstockPhotos-82663378Love Energy

In the previous blog David Brown talked about the heart and its condition in relation to compassion and love. He explained how we can make sure we keep our own heart in good order. He talked about our feelings and emotions and the link they have with the heart.  He felt compelled to discuss this in the light of the recent killings in Paris. We talk in terms of being “stone hearted” or “broken hearted” and “cold hearted” in relation to emotions. This is because we store our emotions in the heart. The heart keeps our blood pumping around our body but it has a much more important job to do than that.

Universal Energy force of nature

The focus of the discussion that David and I are having with our readership is one of energy and the importance of it to the mind, body, emotions and spiritual aspect of the person. We have tried to illustrate the fact that universal energy is impact on all levels of your being and life. No more so than the emotional and spiritual aspect of the person.

We have said in many blogs that we take universal energy into our body and this energy feeds all aspects of our person and being. This may seem confusing, ridiculous, inconsequential or just plain not important to you. This single truth is of immense importance to your life and being. This subtle energy of which I speak, which you can just ignore if you so choose, will do many things for your being and life condition. To understand this fact and to act on it means that you have control over many aspects of your life, health and future.

A gift from the Universe

On a physical level this energy is electricity and magnetism but on a spiritual level it is the breath of life itself and a gift from the universe. It feeds your body, your life and being on all levels. David talked in his blog about taking this energy into your heart. I understand that for some people reading this, what he is saying to you may escape you.

In the wake of the Paris atrocities that blog and its message may well seem trivial. There is nothing trivial about that message, it is far more profound a message than it may seem at first glance. We are taught to see ourselves as separate one from the other by society and religion. We are separated on so many grounds. We separate on ideas; ideals, religion, politics, country of origin; ethnicity and skin colour are some of the factors that are used.

No Separation

In truth there is no separation between any of us. We are one people, the human people of the human family. That is our connection one to the other. We are one race, the human race. We have one home, the earth. This should be obvious to each of us but it is not so for most of us. Look around at the state we are all in at this point in time. So much hate, anger and killing on the grounds of things that seem important yet are inconsequential when looked at that through the lens of what truly connects us. Religion is not important unless you make it so. How we treat each other is important no matter what we may say or do. How we treat each other as part of the human family is of paramount importance. We have all been thrown into life for a time to live, love and grow. How we live, love and grow is important for at the heart of that importance is compassion for each other. Without human feeling and connection there can be no compassion.

Compassion starts with empathy

Compassion starts in the hearts of men. It is through empathy and seeing the other person as part of you that we have compassion. Seeing the humanity in the other person does not start and end in the intellect but it is more about a feeling in the heart of mankind.  When we connect heart to heart what do religion or ideas matter? We are connected by a greater force than any of those. We are connected through the energy of the heart.

If we feel others as part of ourselves and love them as ourselves we cannot harm them for we harm ourselves.

It is when we see others as different or less than ourselves that we can do harm. To separate the other person is to separate a part of ourselves. This is what “being spiritual” means. This is what spiritual connection is. It is a connection one to the other through the heart of you.

Heart connection is a wisdom and truth

Ideas and teachings come and go. There are some things that are universally valid and therefore unchanging.  Humanity’s connection through the heart is one such wisdom. It is a constant of the universe and will never change for man. When we go to pray, or talk to God or align ourselves with one religion or the other, we are seeking a strengthening of our human connection through God. I do not wish to get into discussion here on what God is or isn’t or if he exists. That is not the point of this blog. This blog is explaining there is a universal energy that ties us all together, and we can draw on this energy to strengthen our own connection to each other.

We must look to the condition of our own hearts first and condemn others if we must second. I read an article this week about a Muslim lady who was attacked verbally by a man who brought her to tears. How is this man any different from the terrorists? He was terrorising a woman who was peacefully and lawfully going about her daily life in her own country.

I remember and lived through racial abuse in the past in Britain. We have moved past that time and we should all be proud of that. We should all pat ourselves on the back for our own tolerance and sense of humanity. Britain has come such a long way. I have not walked down any British street for decades and been racially abused. To all of my country men and women who have worked hard so that I can have done that, I would like to say a personal and special thank you.

Taking care of freedom

Let’s all take care. Let’s all take care of each other and keep this the country we all wish to live in. Let’s keep our sense of humanity for that is part of what the terrorists hate about us; our wish for tolerance of each other because they have none. Freedom is an important part of a healthy human being. Being free to think and act in a loving and kind manner and to add positivity to life and the lives of others.

Let us make sure we keep our humanity and do whatever we need to do to stop this madness from taking a moment more of our precious lives. Life should be about love and laughter not killing and hate.  To keep the love in our own hearts healthy use meditation or just contemplation and bring in good energy into the heart.

Peace and Love Lynette.

In our next blog we are going to share a life changing meditation with you.

Paris Atrocities

ThinkstockPhotos-497189328At the time of the recent atrocities in Paris on November 13 2015, I was assisting on a training week. The participants of the training week and I spent part of the Saturday morning analysing the emotions that came up for the participants. We found that as well as the usual feelings of anger, hopelessness, powerlessness and despair, the events also brought up within us feelings of compassion and ideas about the power of human connection. I think that for there to be acts of kindness, humanity and compassion, there needs to be a connection to one’s heart. Being totally connected to one’s own heart facilitates connection to the hearts of other people.

When we are truly connected through our hearts one to another, there is no way acts like those of 9/11 or November 13th 2015 in Paris can ever happen as the connectivity one to the other and true love of humanity does not allow for it. Heart energy plays a huge role in compassion. To freeze the heart is to stem the flow of life giving energy that keeps the body healthy, and the person whole and connected.

Acts of terrorism come from frozen hearts. No one is born with a frozen heart and so it has to be gained over time. We have to ask ourselves what brings a person to this frozen place of a cold heart? How does it happen? With each person who gains a frozen heart the world becomes a progressively colder place.

We cannot let this happen!

We have to ask ourselves what will this do to our personal lives and health or the health of the planet if we allow the progression of an ever colder and disconnected humanity.

Opening our hearts and freeing its free flow of loving energy is essential. Free flow of loving energy is how we will heal the world. Not by bombing each other and blowing each other up. Negative or positive energy flow goes deeper than global issues. This goes to the core of our being and our humanity. I believe in the power of energy. It is a non-emotional force without morality or ethics. We give it those labels. What energy has is vibration, specific signatures that attracts more of the same. War breeds war. Hate insights hate. There is much fear in the world and the only thing that will combat it is a concerted effort towards love which resides in the energy of the heart.

This is my personal call to you to you to ask you to do one thing every day that may scare you! I am asking you to love in the face of fear and hate. Together let us halt the tide of fear and hate. This current situation of increasing hate that is growing on both sides may seem hopeless, and you may feel powerless.

Yet I promise you this: if we fail to connect to our hearts and allow the energy of the heart and love to flow there, there will be nothing to counter the growing momentum of fear and hatred in the world.

In our book Nourish the Flame Within, we talk at length about such themes of love and hate and there are meditations that connect you to your heart energy. By working on drawing energy into your body from above, you can power up the energy in your heart. Your heart is the place of emotion and your connection to others.  A healthy heart on all levels will ensure our connection to each other.

On my training weekend of which I spoke I opened my heart to the pain people must be feeling around the world with regards to the current situation of separation and hate that is playing out in terrorist atrocities. Normally I would not publically comment on these political acts but this time I felt compelled to do so.

We must all dig deep as the growing tide of anger takes us forward. We must all examine the condition of our own hearts and our position on humanity. For this situation will get worse before it gets better and each of us must make sure we stand on the side of good. Love, kindness and human connection is the only true good, for anything less than that must surely be negative and therefore wrong as negativity breeds negativity. None of us can ensure anyone but ourselves stays true to love and humanity. So let’s start with ourselves and see how the wave we create can change this terribly negative situation to one of love, human connection and hope!

Holistic Therapy

Chiropractic therapy works with the alignment of the bones which can become misaligned simply through the process of living. If these misalignments are left untreated they can lead to muscle imbalance, poor posture, pain and the stagnation or pooling of energy in muscles throughout the body.

Chiropractic therapy.

Holistic Therapy

The working life of a holistic therapist is not always easy. I had a client last year who came to me because they said I only practiced Reiki. I did not tell this client that was not true until they visited me. They were disappointed in me and promptly removed themselves from my care. I am not sure what benefit they saw in me only knowing one discipline. I have equally heard such stories from my fellow therapists.  Most therapists know and practice more than one therapy. It is not a case of learning one and specialising. Of course there are therapists who only have one therapy, but that is not the norm by far. Take a look at therapist websites and you will see that many practise many disciplines.

I can equally understand why the public may see this as a therapist being a jack of all trades. However this is far from the truth. It is easy to understand why many holistic therapists decide to learn more than one therapy.

As a therapist myself that has qualified in more than one therapy, I would be a little apprehensive to visit a therapist who just had one therapy under their belt. Although I am not saying I would not visit such a person. It depends on the therapy and the therapists’ reputation for results.

CPD, Continuing professional development

ThinkstockPhotos-511136335

Therapist are required as part of the regulations for belonging to many professional bodies, to do ongoing professional development, each year. Sometimes this can be tricky to fulfil I can tell you. A very easy way to fulfil the requirements is to undergo further training by way of workshops or in other therapies. Often training in another holistic therapy will fulfil the requirement for a few years. Extending the existing holistic knowledge of the therapist is seen as a positive thing and not a negative thing to do. All knowledge has to be good as it broadens the awareness and understanding that the therapist may have of how the body works and how they can impact the health of their client in a positive manner.

Workshops

ThinkstockPhotos-477281818

Workshops help to extend the therapists knowledge by way of short weekend or day courses. I find these very valuable as they often give me a taste of other therapies and energy knowledge. I am a colour therapist and I tend to use colour therapy in a very supportive way to my other therapies. I never use colour therapy as a main therapy for my clients. Recently, I went on a weekend workshop that was focusing on colour and sound. Sound is another of my therapies. We were given finger lights to use to illustrate the impact of coloured light on the body. Finger lights are little lights that young people use at raves and parties to shine light into a darkened dance floor. They are meant as fun little gismos. We used them to shine light on the back of each other in the workshop and the person had to say where the light was being shone. Not one person got it wrong even though they could not see where the light was being shone. This experience made me revisit something that I know well; the impact that coloured light has on the body and colour in general. I needed this little exercise to remind me of this fact and how I can use this exercise and piece of knowledge for my own students and clients.

Client’s affinity

157703201

Some clients will have an affinity with one therapy over another purely on emotional grounds. I can get the work that I need done for the client by switching my approach using one therapy over another. Each individual is different and will come from a personal emotional stand point. If they have had a negative experience with one therapy very often they will not try it again, even though it they may be experiencing the therapy via a different therapist. This has to be respected and it is impossible for any therapist to insist that a client has any therapy. So how can they help if a particular therapy is not suiting a client? Having knowledge of more than one therapy makes a great deal of sense for both the client and the therapist.

Using multiple therapies

Sound therapy with colour in the backgraound.

Sound therapy with colour in the background.

Each therapy brings its own impact on the condition of the body and person, and using each therapy in conjunction with another can sometimes have a greater impact. Sometimes if a client is particularly highly strung or stressed I will give them one or two Reiki sessions prior to giving Hypnotherapy sessions as that helps me work much more easily with that person and they have to learn to do less work at relaxing. The Reiki brings them into a naturally relaxed state that goes far beyond the session itself.

ThinkstockPhotos-512802073

Colour has an impact on our emotions, physical and mental health. It can make you cheerful and uplifted or down and sad, depending on the colour and your response to that colour.

If a person is very emotional I can tell them how to use colour in their dress, décor and generally around them to combat that stress quickly. These are very simple things and highly effective. Colour and light impact our being on all levels. We have physical, emotional and spiritual responses to colour and light.

I consider the therapies that I know as part of my tool kit bag. Just as a builder or carpenter has a correct tool for a particular job in their tool bag, so have I. All of the therapies that I use are part of my therapy tool kit. I do not offer one therapy over another to a client just as an experience for money. I want results for my client and my tools bring those results and that is the point.

Deepening knowledge

There are seven major chakra points. Each is an energy reservoir that sends electromagnetic energy around the body. Electro magnetic energy is also known as Chi/Ki and Prana amongst other names. This subtle energy needs to be in a healthy condition to keep all levels of the person in good health. Alcohol, poor sleep patterns and stress are some of the things that will interrupt the subtle energy system of the body.

As my knowledge of energy has deepened over the years learning each of my therapies, I have come to understand that each therapy is just a different approach to impacting the client’s energy system or body. Sometimes one therapy will not do the work that I require effectively enough for that particular client and so I can call on the other therapies and energy knowledge that I possess. I do not see this as a negative state of affairs but of infinite benefit to my client’s wellbeing and management.

Each therapy I have learnt over the years gives me another way of bringing healing to my clients; all have deepened my knowledge of how the body works both energetically and physically. I have learnt how energy impacts the energy system and the body to good effect. I know that if I needed the help of a holistic therapist I would look for one that has a good reputation of gaining healing results and not one who necessarily specialises in one therapy.  Broad and deep knowledge makes sense to me.

Over to you

LynettePlease share your experiences of therapists who have specialised in one discipline or have a multiple of therapies available to their clients in the comments at the foot of this blog page.  You may be a therapist or visit therapists on a regular or intermittent basis.  Whatever your relationship with the healing arts, we would love to hear from you and discover what you think.  Please feel free to share your experience.

Best wishes Lynette

Actions are Energy

523260231Thoughts are energy

This week has been a shocking and difficult one. It left me shaken and shocked. The recent events in Paris have left a lot of people both disturbed and upset. I have spoken to a few people this week that have expressed to me sentiments that I am feeling myself. I feel that these events have touched people in a way that the occurrences in the past maybe have not. Perhaps it is because it seems so unreasonable that so many people died for what seems to the western free mind as a simple innocent little thing. The cover of a magazine should never provoke such rage and hatred in anyone. I cannot see that anything can justify the depraved slaughter of people.   The Charlie Hebdo magazine had a legal right to publish the cover and so as far as I can see they legally did nothing wrong. Did they do anything morally wrong? That is the question now I feel?

Beliefs are strongly held ideas that are thought to have weight and truth.  At the end of the day they are still only ideas. They have fluidity. Even a fixed idea that is a firmly held belief can be changed in an instant. It merely requires the desire to change that idea. Ideas are thoughts. Thoughts are energy.

Brutal actions however cannot be changed so easily. Once we commit a brutal act it unleashes something negative into the world and it will then have a life of its own. We let a Genie out of a bottle and once out it will not go back until it has reached its own allotted time. We never know what that time is as the Genie will keep going as long as people give it the energy and power to do so. With every malicious or murderous act that follows, the genie is given more power, until people have run out of energy and the pain of so much death takes its toll on the hearts, minds, souls and lives of those who are witnessing or experiencing the negative forces that are at play.

I had to spend some time thinking about the events that have led up to this disturbing time. We had 9/11, Iraq, Al Quieda and now ISIS.  I tell you straight as a person of peace I really try not to allow all of this turmoil into my life on any level.  The human race is a warring race. They kill each other at any opportunity. They separate on the grounds of any old rubbish.  Ideas are fluid and not fixed. We move on emotionally and we change and develop daily. What we do is experiment with life trying to find perfection. There is no perfection.

Human beings will kill each other on the grounds of the most inconsequential things as well as deeply held beliefs. The trouble with beliefs is they are personal and subjective. It does not matter how deeply we feel that our beliefs are correct- there is always the possibility that they may not be correct. So if we kill a person over beliefs no matter how deeply we feel we are correct and in the right, what if we are not? What we are left with is a pile of dead people that we cannot resurrect. This is a futile and dangerous path.

We are one and we are free

All human beings are one. The binding force in humanity is its humanity. Religion will never bind us. It cannot. We will never all agree on religion, politics or any idea or ideology. I believe that in humanity’s current state and way of thinking it will not happen. It cannot be brought about by force either. As I said force will only allow something to be for a time. People have a natural need to be free in mind, body and soul. It is a natural condition to the human state.

Religious beliefs

Religious beliefs have a place, but not a murderous one. To be religious or walk any spiritual path it is one of peace. I just cannot reconcile blood on the hands of a person who has words of love and peace on his lips. The image and actions do not work. We are human and as such are capable of many things. We are capable of great things and have had many great moments in our history. Killing and fighting are never the moments that we have held or can hold up as our greatest achievements. They are always the lowest of what we can do to and for each other.

Freedom of speech is important as it allows all sides and all people to have a voice. However, we do not need to have religious, political or racial hate. Hate is hate no matter what umbrella it comes to us under. Each human being in my view should be allowed to worship or not and in the way they choose. It is good to have variety and possibilities.  They help one grow and keeps life engaging and unpredictable.  Options are a good thing. Everyone has a point of view on religion and all are equally valid. We must live together with the other person’s point of view and respect them and their right to have it. We must not silence their voice on the grounds that it does not fit in with our own.  Obviously if a person is being directly provocative and wanting to incite human hatred for the purpose of bringing harm to the person on any grounds of religion, race, or politics it must be stopped.

Keeping ourselves in check

Don’t get me wrong.  Beliefs have their place but we all need to keep them in check and if they are sacred, keep them so. If we sully our own sacred beliefs with the blood of another human being, how sacred are they now?

When is the human race going to learn from its past mistakes? There is no perfection of people.  Perhaps there is no perfection in God.  If perfection is an endlessly moving goal post, how can we say that anything is right or wrong?  Things are as they are in this moment, a chance for perfection and then the universe moves on. There is only the wish for perfection and the road to perfection. Perfection itself does not exist. In pushing forward on the road for perfection we change and develop. Hopefully we get development and something better for our efforts.

Violence has never solved anything. It has never helped us at all. It will quieten the argument for some time and then it re-emerges at a later date. People have grown more violent and oblivious to pain as far as I can see. I may be wrong but that is how it seems to me.  I don’t hear too many people saying let’s walk a road of peace. I hear people say let’s kill, and I am hearing more of that and it scares and unsettles me.

Doves of peace

I say let’s not kill. I say let’s have peace. I say let’s symbolically let 3,000,000 doves of peace loose to help this situation and as they fly away have their positive energy touch the world. That is what I will do. Please feel free to join me in your own way and spread your positive intent for peace. I shall go into my own personal peace and ask for this symbolically to be so. What harm can that do? Prayers of love and peace can do no harm. People do harm if they employ selfish, malicious, or murderous intent.

I hope the universe hears my request. Respect, Peace, and love to the entire human race. Walk a peaceful path.  It is the only one that is binding and lasting.

Giving the Christmas Message

461259677

 Seasons Greetings,

Christmas is more than a time of giving.  We all rush around in a mad frenzy choosing and buying gifts for our family and friends for the big day.

It is the time of year that retailers love the most as they do the majority of their business at Christmas. Each year retailers wait with baited breath, as the last sales are totalled. They have sweat on their brow, I am sure of it, whilst they wait to know if sales are up or down. Each year we all get to hear via the media how well or badly the retailers have done.  I am not sure why we should care and especially at Christmas. For retailers Christmas is first and foremost about sales and profit.

I wonder too what Christmas means to the average person as Christ is inched out of his own birthday bit by bit. Some schools are now changing their practise on the nativity and have removed the play from their Christmas activity. Also, some schools have now changed what they call Christmas and are calling it the winter festival instead of Christmas. I feel if that is the case let’s just get rid of the whole thing altogether. If we are not celebrating the birth of Christ, what are we celebrating exactly?

How can Christ be a bad thing? This was a child that was born a special person. Some people are born to be special. Others have to work and become special. Surely if nothing else we should celebrate the specialness. Three wise kings came to celebrate Jesus’s birth. They brought him three gifts. They gave him gold to symbolise his high status, even thought he was of a humble human family. Gold is a special and precious metal given to special people or for special occasions. This was given to him to honour what was special in him.

The second gift that was given to Christ was frankincense. Frankincense is an interesting substance that has been traditionally used for spiritual ceremonies in religion and spiritual practices. It is an aromatic resin. This resin comes from the Boswellia tree.  This resin has a particular and pleasant smell. It smells quite sweet and a little bit musty at the same time. This gift signified the spiritual nature of the child and the special spiritual gift which was his teaching and special message that he would give to the world of man.

The third gift that the kings brought to the Baby Jesus was Myrrh. This too is a resin derived from a tree. This comes from the Commiphora myrrh tree. This substance was traditionally used by people to prepare the dead for burial. This gift signified Jesus’s short life and premature death. The kings were saying this child is special and he would do good work for the world and only have a very short life. The fact that these wise kings travelled far to honour the baby Jesus and brought such well thought out gifts is the reason we give gifts at Christmas. The birth of this special person and what he went onto achieve is the reason we have celebrated Christmas for about two thousand years. I am not sure what will be left if we take Christ out of Christ’s own mass.

Each year at this time we all give and receive gifts. How many of us give gifts as a celebration of Christ’s birth and life? How many of us concern ourselves with the true reason we are celebrating at this time of year? Or is it just that we are all full of the expectation of the material gain, as well as the spirits that we will consume? Is that more important to most of us? Maybe I am getting old and cynical.  Spiritual sustenance is like bread for the body. Good eating and good nutrition. Christ had a spiritual message to enhance our spiritual well-being. Perhaps we should all take a little time out from the mistletoe and wine and reflect inwardly to nourish our flame within. Seems like the most appropriate time of year to do so to me.

I wish you a happy Christmas and the best ever New Year, and would like to thank everyone who has been reading our blogs and supporting our work over the past two years and for being so fab.

Have a great Christmas and don’t consume too many spirits. Stay safe.

Lynette.

Enjoy the little things

Enjoy_the_little_things_photoI watched a movie the other day set in England during World War 2. Two men are discussing the possible outcomes of the war when one of them says “no matter how long it lasts nothing will ever be the same again. We will be changed forever because of this war.”

Now don’t worry, I am not going to go on about war and it’s horrors, though there is no doubt the outcome of war changes our lives beyond measure.

I am looking at a broader perspective. I am asking “How do the moments of life change us and help us experience and grow?”  Reflection and contemplation are the keys I believe. To allow an event into our being so that it effects us. Through interacting with the original event we transform the energy into something new and in turn we are transformed.

This is the nature of growth and evolution. Every movie I watch, each conversation I have I try to take something away that I can work with and transform that idea into something new and in turn growing myself, transforming my thoughts and energy to create a new self- slightly wiser and more experienced than before.

What a gift to be able to give yourself and what a way to be able to be thankful for all the little moments in your life that might otherwise pass you by.

Miss Stress Ball

Miss Stress Ball

Miss Stress Ball

The My Story series continues with number three in the series, “Miss Stress Ball”.

I was a very quiet shy child. Life taught me to keep my mouth shut and keep a low profile. I was born in a time when you did not answer your elders and betters back. If you had an opinion you were to keep it to yourself as no one wanted to hear it from a child or teenager. That did not suit me as I was always a deeply thinking person.

Teachers

I am of mixed race and was born in the 50’s in London, Great Britain. Being mixed race was not an easy thing at that time. At school many of my teachers left me in no doubt that they did not want me in their class on the basis of my colour. Not all teachers where like that, I did have many kinds and lovely people who were my teachers and mentors along the way. However, the first teacher that made it clear to me that I was not wanted as a pupil by her was when I was five and first entered school. She made me cry most days until my mother had enough and went to the school and gave her what for. I remember hearing my mother say to the teacher if my daughter comes home one more day crying because of you, then you will go home crying. My mother was a tough woman.

Unkindness

Some of the children were unkind also and most would not play with me and did not include me. The boy next door threw a stone at me as I passed his house one day on the basis of my colour and called me all sorts of unkind names. The children who played in my street one day would not let me join in their game and said I t was because I was dirty. When I looked at my dress and hands, I showed the children and said no look I am clean. They replied with you are black and not white and you are dirty.

My Stresses

These were my personal early stresses in life. Times have got somewhat better with such things. Many people do try hard to be tolerant to all races now. Not everyone has this inclusive mind set even today. Life can be hard and cause us all sorts of stresses. Many of those stresses can start very early in our lives. As a hypnotherapist I know that most people when they come to me for help have had some sort of trauma/traumas at some point in their life. Stress always has a root.

I continued to gather stress as I went through life and as life dealt me many difficult situations to deal with. I had good ones too, but stress builds up in the body as negative energy and has to be removed. The body will accommodate an amount of it but when the sub-conscious mind and body becomes over loaded the person will break down in some way. It could be physical, emotional or even mental.

A Broken Body

My body broke down eventually and I fell into ill health, with M.E. The signs of stress were there in my life in my thirties and my friends joked and called me miss stress ball. I was a person who just would not give in to life and would just fight through the worst of it.

Everyone has a story and reasons why they become stressed. Life is stressful for all sorts of reasons. Stress must be dealt with and we all need to be mindful that we are impactful on each other in the things we do and say to each other. Why add stress to another person’s life. Life itself gives each of us enough of it.

Dealing with stress

I have dealt with my stress and ill health and the two things that help me the most are meditation and Reiki. I use both of those things to keep my stress in check. So effective have they been in my life that I teach these techniques to people when they need to manage stress in their lives in an effective way.  In the book “Nourish the Flame within” that I have written with David Brown I explore meditation and Reiki as means of combating stress.  If you would like to learn more about using Reiki and meditation to combat stress you can get a free e- book from our website or purchase a copy of our book “Nourish the Flame Within.”

Stress and Strain

Stress Free

Stress Free

The life of inner peace being harmonious and without stress is the easiest type of existence.

~~Norman Vincent Peale~~

A stress free life

Life How do we find a stress free life? Is this an impossible dream for us all? Is there any part of our lives that is truly stress- free? I am not so sure that there is. For is I look at our entry to life all I can see is stress. The mother is certainly stressed, the baby about to be born must be stressed for he or she is about to be thrown out of its cosy existence into a world unfamiliarity. It has spent the past nine months very cosy and warm and nourished thank you very much. So why should it want to be thrust into life at all. If we look around the delivery room there will be a few anxious midwives rushing around doing the things that mid wives do at these times of uncertainty and new delivery. Calming the parents to be the best they can and stabilising their own nerves I am sure. The very thought of that environment is stressful. Of course there is joy to follow for when the little chaps or chap-ess arrives there can be nothing but joy.  The poor little thing enters a world of stress and joy and then is slapped on the bottom for good measure.

More stress

Well this is the start of life for human beings and there is much of more of all that to follow in the years ahead. Stress and joy, to come in life and not in the same measure unfortunately. No one knows how the little new little person’s life will be. We all wish the new born the best and hope its life will be a good one. There is such hope pinned on the new born for its parents want it to be the embodiment of all of their hope and dreams.  A lot is placed on the shoulders of the new arrival. Already it has to live up to the parents expectations and it has only just arrived. No one tells the poor thing that this will be its start to life and if they did the child would probably say no thanks to life.

The start of life is not easy and it does not get any easier for as we travel through our lives and the twists and turns that it throws in our path life can sometimes be crushing for many people.

Of course not every one’s life is a crushing affair for many if not most it is an OK affair that is travelled through with a reasonable amount of dignity and grace. There are many lives and many kinds of people living those lives. All are different one from the other all have both the people and the lives. Do we make our life or does our life make us? I think that is an interesting question. In the industrialised west life is a fast paced noisy existence for all.

Life in the fast lane

As most people in industrialised  societies live their lives in the city, noise, people and stress are unavoidable. Life is fast paced and about productivity in all things. The cry of the city is fast more and more. It does not matter how fast you are you must be faster still and there is no end to the striving for an ever increasing pace in all things. I wonder to what cost this fast paced life we all must live is. For whom does it serve? Does it serve the person living this fast paced life does it truly serve society at large? I wonder this often and I am not sure I have the answer to this question. For it is true that the industrialised life we all live brings benefits to us but is that at a large price. Well time will tell of course if all of this stress will have been worth it. When I was a young child of the fifties modern medicine was the golden child of the twentieth century. It was going to eradicate disease and put all to rights. Well I am not sure that it has. It has done marvellous things of course we all are in no doubt about that. Many diseases that were the blight of the nineteenth century have almost been removed totally and that is a good thing.

Life of ease

If I look around at life I do not see this life of ease that was the promise of the twentieth century. Machines and objects were to bring us ease. The vacuum cleaner, the car, the electric lawn mower all are labour saving devices. People are as stressed and worried about life as they always were. They are still worrying about their economic position personal, national and global.

In amongst all of the financial uncertainty that we have all endured in over the past few years I see many stressed uncertain people trying to make sense of their lives life in general and what will happen to them in the future. I think rightly so, for who wants an uncertain future. Who wants to feel that they may lose their home or not be able to put food on the table?

An Interesting ride

I have seen many things come and go, mainly prime ministers and world leaders. Some have been good and some have been bad. Some have shouted for fairness equality and change and others have shouted for the status quo. All have had something to say on how life should be organised for the masses to the best effect.

Well it has been an interesting ride watching and listening I must say. However it seems to me that things do not change so much really. The same issues tax us all. We want to go about our lives unhindered in relative safety and peace. We want our basic needs met and a holiday or two on top. We all want normal things but those things come at a price. Those things come through the daily grind. The daily grind can do just that grind at you and grind you down if you let it.

Relax

So if life does not change much and we can expect the same amounts of stress what do we do? What is the trick to a stress free life? The first trick is to understand that stress is a necessary part of life.. The next is to learn to manage the stress that life throws at you. Now this is the tricky one. For how do we do that? Well what I can tell you is there are tools that you can learn to help with stress.  Things like meditation and hypnosis are good ways of managing stress. As well as breathing correctly and taking adequate sleep and rest. All help with levels of stress. The best one is to avoid stress as much as possible be walking away from stressful situations and not causing stressful encounters to be in your life. For stress causes many illnesses. It does so slowly over many years mostly. You will not notice the effects of stress on a day to day basis, but it builds up within the body slowly eating away at your health and vitality turning you into a grey shadow of your former self.  Oh how horrible!

I am sorry to paint such a picture which is not at all pleasant but neither is ill health. There are many ways to combat stress and each person must find the one that suits them the best.  Relax and do something nice and just don’t take life to heart or it may hurt your heart.
