Balance and Process

There is a balance point around which the energy flows.

There is a balance point around which the energy flows.

As I am writing and researching my new book Back to our Future, I am becoming aware that nature is Process driven. By which I mean there is a flow of energy along a highway or path that I would call The Process. These invisible highways lead to the potential outcomes of life, the “What if’s” that only become actualities and “What are’s” if enough energy is sent through The Process. Until then, they are pipe dreams and fantasies, which is how all great things start.

We tend to think of these in the human context as thoughts, ideas that spring to mind. This is the first creative Process as Neale Donald Walsh shares in Conversations with God. The second creative Process is word and finally action. Right Action is so important in life an entire chapter of the Bhagavad Gita is devoted to it as part of its spiritual guidance.  It is also part of Buddha’s Eight- fold path. Energy must flow into action for things to be created in the material world.   Yes, their foundation is in energy, in thought, yet there is a balance point around which existence shifts that makes this Process work in two directions.

Energy does not flow in one direction. It flows in two. There is a balance point around which the energy flows. If the energy is flowing in one direction, thought becomes action and things come into being. Flow the other way and things can no longer be sustained in that manner and they break apart. You can see this with old abandoned buildings.   I have driven past a property over the last twenty years or so that I have seen built up from the ground, lived in and cared for and then abandoned. Now the roof and walls are breaking apart and soon there will be nothing left of it- The Process of energy flowing to create something and then flowing back the other way in action.

This balance manifests itself through the power of opposites. For there to be a right there must be a left. For an up there has to be a down. The Chinese refer to this as Yin and Yang and Taoist writings infer that this Yin and Yang was created from the Void, the Absolute, the Whole. Without opposites energy cannot flow, for it has no impetus to flow. Wind blows as a product of air moving down a pressure gradient from high to low. Water cascades down a river from a higher altitude to a lower altitude. Energy moves from order towards disorder unless effort is put in to prevent this. So balance is a point around which everything pivots, it is not a state of being. If it were, there would be no movement. Balance as a state of being would be stagnation. Imbalance is required if you are to move forward in any area of life. Even walking is a perpetual unbalancing process by which you continually regain balance before you stumble and fall.

In life, you are looking to keep things out of balance so that you can move things forward. You do not want them to be so far out of balance that you cannot recover from it. You see this a lot with over- work, too much food, drugs, alcohol etc. Learn to push your self off- balance enough to move forward, to step out of your comfort zone, to be on the edge enough to feel the adrenaline of life so that you learn, grow and develop. With that skill, you learn to trust The Process that is taking place in the background. You are learning to harness that life potential and see where and how it unfolds. You would go nowhere and do nothing without imbalance and the impetus to move, grow and learn, so get out there and learn to trust life and The Process that drives it all.

Meditation

Meditation is a beautiful practice. It can do so many things for the person. There are many reasons to learn to meditate. Meditation can be used for the enhancement of health, emotional balance and life awareness amongst other things. In the West we do not have a culture of teaching or appreciating this beneficial practice. We are largely skeptical and suspicious of it. We often view it as something a bit wacky and “out there. It is something that is not commonly of our culture and seen as a bit pagan even. It is none of those things as it is a very useful tool. I am a meditation teacher and a Hypnotherapist amongst other things and it surprises and saddens me when I come across these views of meditation or even Hypnotherapy. Meditation and Hypnotherapy are very similar practices. They both employ deep relaxation of the person for the enhancement of health and well-being.

We can all meditate as we all go through the place of meditation each time we go to sleep. So we can all do it. People over think what is needed and put a lot of does and don’ts on the practise of it and often make it too complicated. They also try to analyse the process whilst doing it and that should not be done. That will make the process very difficult.  Keep it simple and know that it is just deep relaxation without going to sleep.

Relaxation methodThinkstockPhotos-521855347

Before starting to meditate find a safe and comfortable place. You do not have to adopt any kind of complicated posture. Just sit or lay comfortably in a chair, on the floor on a bed.

Go down into relaxation breathe deeply to a pattern of three. So breath in 1, 2, 3 hold he breath 1, 2, 3 and slowly breathe out 1, 2, 3. Keep doing that until you are very deeply relaxed and then follow the instructions on the meditation. May I suggest you record the instructions in real time on a voice recorder and then listen to it? You have to allow yourself time to go down into relaxation and that generally will take ten minutes. Talk yourself into relaxing by saying things like relax your feet, your legs, your arms etc. Take your time and realise that it will take you time to gain a deep relaxation. You could practice on a friend first before recording to see how long it takes you to get them to relax. They key to relaxation is the breath.

Make sure you do not listen to the recording whilst driving as you will be going off to sleep and that will be dangerous to do. This may seem like the obvious but you will be surprised how many of my students and clients say “oh I can listen to this in the car.” No you can’t.

If you need further instruction on meditation then purchase Nourish the Flame Within and it will give you more instruction on it.

Universal connection through this meditation

This meditation does what it says and it will help to change the person’s outlook.  They only have to do the meditation a  few times. Even just doing it once will change a person to a degree. It connects you to the universal forces and just by doing this meditation those forces will balance the person and they will gain an enhanced perspective on connection as this meditation is for that purpose.

Teaching

If you are a meditation teacher and have violent or aggressive pupils this maybe a meditation to give them as it should have a calming effect on them. Any one of that imbalanced state should gain great benefit from this meditation. It is also good for anyone who just wants to enhance their connection to others. This meditation helps the person to feel others on a deeper level that they do at present. This is the meditation to do to enhance connection to the rest of the human race. There are many reasons to want that. To be more in tune with the rest of the human race as a collective or people as individuals can only be a good thing. Anyone dealing with people on a collective or one to one basis will gain great insight and benefit from this meditation. That has to be just about all of us. The insights may take many forms and will be individual to the individual doing the meditation. This meditation connects you to everyone. Well that is not strictly true as you are already connected, what this meditation does it give you deep insight into that connection on a intellectual and energetic level.

Meditation 2: Connecting into Others and Knowing their Needs.

  1. Take yourself down into relaxation. Now take many shallow slow breaths.

Concentrate on the rhythm of your breathing. Know your own breath pattern. Listen to the rhythm of your own breath. Feel the calmness feel the beauty of each breath.

Know you are an individual.

Know that you are not separate.

Know that you have connection to others of your kind.

You are human and of the human kind.

Know that you have brothers.

Know that you have sisters.

Know that you are one of many.

Know that you are not alone.

  1. Now bring white light energy into your body. Bring in the source. Ask for the hand of God to guide you. Connect to all that there is.

Send out the vibration of healing. Know that it is in your power to do so. Send out to your brothers and sisters. Understand their needs.

As they hurt, so do you.

As they bleed, so do you.

Send out the ray of compassion; send out the ray of love.

Bring your attention to your own body. Now connect your spirit to others.

Understand that you are one of many.

Understand that you are connected at source.

This is universal law. This is universal truth.

Now send out the vibration of connection. You know this connection on a soul level. Send it out, and stay aware and connected. Walk with your brothers as one.

From this moment on, understand all that is.

Understand you bleed as they do.

Understand you are one of many and walk together as one.

  1. Now feel the thread of connection and hold in that place for ten minutes.

Now let the connection slowly diminish. However, always hold this knowledge.

This meditation changes you for all time.

Come back to the here and the now.

Heart Energy

ThinkstockPhotos-82663378Love Energy

In the previous blog David Brown talked about the heart and its condition in relation to compassion and love. He explained how we can make sure we keep our own heart in good order. He talked about our feelings and emotions and the link they have with the heart.  He felt compelled to discuss this in the light of the recent killings in Paris. We talk in terms of being “stone hearted” or “broken hearted” and “cold hearted” in relation to emotions. This is because we store our emotions in the heart. The heart keeps our blood pumping around our body but it has a much more important job to do than that.

Universal Energy force of nature

The focus of the discussion that David and I are having with our readership is one of energy and the importance of it to the mind, body, emotions and spiritual aspect of the person. We have tried to illustrate the fact that universal energy is impact on all levels of your being and life. No more so than the emotional and spiritual aspect of the person.

We have said in many blogs that we take universal energy into our body and this energy feeds all aspects of our person and being. This may seem confusing, ridiculous, inconsequential or just plain not important to you. This single truth is of immense importance to your life and being. This subtle energy of which I speak, which you can just ignore if you so choose, will do many things for your being and life condition. To understand this fact and to act on it means that you have control over many aspects of your life, health and future.

A gift from the Universe

On a physical level this energy is electricity and magnetism but on a spiritual level it is the breath of life itself and a gift from the universe. It feeds your body, your life and being on all levels. David talked in his blog about taking this energy into your heart. I understand that for some people reading this, what he is saying to you may escape you.

In the wake of the Paris atrocities that blog and its message may well seem trivial. There is nothing trivial about that message, it is far more profound a message than it may seem at first glance. We are taught to see ourselves as separate one from the other by society and religion. We are separated on so many grounds. We separate on ideas; ideals, religion, politics, country of origin; ethnicity and skin colour are some of the factors that are used.

No Separation

In truth there is no separation between any of us. We are one people, the human people of the human family. That is our connection one to the other. We are one race, the human race. We have one home, the earth. This should be obvious to each of us but it is not so for most of us. Look around at the state we are all in at this point in time. So much hate, anger and killing on the grounds of things that seem important yet are inconsequential when looked at that through the lens of what truly connects us. Religion is not important unless you make it so. How we treat each other is important no matter what we may say or do. How we treat each other as part of the human family is of paramount importance. We have all been thrown into life for a time to live, love and grow. How we live, love and grow is important for at the heart of that importance is compassion for each other. Without human feeling and connection there can be no compassion.

Compassion starts with empathy

Compassion starts in the hearts of men. It is through empathy and seeing the other person as part of you that we have compassion. Seeing the humanity in the other person does not start and end in the intellect but it is more about a feeling in the heart of mankind.  When we connect heart to heart what do religion or ideas matter? We are connected by a greater force than any of those. We are connected through the energy of the heart.

If we feel others as part of ourselves and love them as ourselves we cannot harm them for we harm ourselves.

It is when we see others as different or less than ourselves that we can do harm. To separate the other person is to separate a part of ourselves. This is what “being spiritual” means. This is what spiritual connection is. It is a connection one to the other through the heart of you.

Heart connection is a wisdom and truth

Ideas and teachings come and go. There are some things that are universally valid and therefore unchanging.  Humanity’s connection through the heart is one such wisdom. It is a constant of the universe and will never change for man. When we go to pray, or talk to God or align ourselves with one religion or the other, we are seeking a strengthening of our human connection through God. I do not wish to get into discussion here on what God is or isn’t or if he exists. That is not the point of this blog. This blog is explaining there is a universal energy that ties us all together, and we can draw on this energy to strengthen our own connection to each other.

We must look to the condition of our own hearts first and condemn others if we must second. I read an article this week about a Muslim lady who was attacked verbally by a man who brought her to tears. How is this man any different from the terrorists? He was terrorising a woman who was peacefully and lawfully going about her daily life in her own country.

I remember and lived through racial abuse in the past in Britain. We have moved past that time and we should all be proud of that. We should all pat ourselves on the back for our own tolerance and sense of humanity. Britain has come such a long way. I have not walked down any British street for decades and been racially abused. To all of my country men and women who have worked hard so that I can have done that, I would like to say a personal and special thank you.

Taking care of freedom

Let’s all take care. Let’s all take care of each other and keep this the country we all wish to live in. Let’s keep our sense of humanity for that is part of what the terrorists hate about us; our wish for tolerance of each other because they have none. Freedom is an important part of a healthy human being. Being free to think and act in a loving and kind manner and to add positivity to life and the lives of others.

Let us make sure we keep our humanity and do whatever we need to do to stop this madness from taking a moment more of our precious lives. Life should be about love and laughter not killing and hate.  To keep the love in our own hearts healthy use meditation or just contemplation and bring in good energy into the heart.

Peace and Love Lynette.

In our next blog we are going to share a life changing meditation with you.

Changing Seasons, Changing Energy

Spring is the most wonderful time of year in the United Kingdom.  Each season has its beauty and its own energy, and for me no one season is better or worse than the others.  Each has its own unique magic that is a celebration of nature and the fluid forces that drive the cycles throughout the year.

Many ancient South_Africa002and traditional cultures lived their lives in harmony with the changing cycles.  Many of the festivals that they had were a celebration and honouring of the changes in energy from sleeping to waking, between winter and spring, and the natural power of full bloom of nature during high summer.  Nature has its own natural preparation for slumber as crops are harvested either by man or by the wild animals as they bury nuts and eat the berries and other fruits of the land, and finally the deep calm and sleep in winter.

We are approaching the stirring of nature’s energy from her sleep.  The snowdrops are flourishing and the bluebells are also beginning to break the surface of the forest floor.  It will be a while until we get the stunning carpets of blue in the forests, but when we do the world will be alive with the vibrant pulse of bird song, nest building and courtship rituals.

Nature’s balance is such that the opposite will be happening in the southern hemisphere.  Here it is autumn.  The birds will be migrating away, the chicks fledged, the leaves turning crispy reds and browns and the wild life preparing for sleep.  Then, it will be deep winter.  Scientists give complex explanations for the whys of nature, but really it just responds to the forces of nature, to remain in balance and harmony.  Living things feel the shifting energy and respond by their nature.  Trees shed their leaves, animals grow thicker coats and head for warmer climes and some hibernate.  Meanwhile, in the North, high summer is the plateau of energy.  The surges of spring and new growth are over, and the hum of nature’s power is strong and forceful.  All of nature celebrates.

Humanity enjoys the changing seasons just as nature does.  Even in the hectic flow of our daily lives and relentless schedules, we rest more in the winter, play harder in the summer and work more diligently in the spring when we create and in the autumn when we harvest.  With the seasons, man is in harmony with nature.  The subtle yet powerful forces of nature are irresistible to us.  For thousands of years, humanity has lived with nature’s ebb and flow, and although we do that less now, we still honour the changing seasons, not just in our religious holidays, but in our everyday changes in mood and behaviour.

These seasonal changes of energy are as much a part of the living energy of the universe as the energies we discuss in Nourish the Flame Within and the soon to be published Feel the Power.  The seasons are something we see and experience every year.  Some of us pay attention to them more than others, but we all feel their presence, their power and their unique gifts of joy, work, hardship and learning.

What do you love about the seasons?  How do you experience the changes in energy and how do they affect you.  Do you live in harmony with the seasons, or do you battle on relentlessly throughout the year.

I would love to hear from you and get some fascinating discussions going. Please feel free to leave your thoughts and comments below.  We are interested in genuine thoughts and discussion.

Life on Life’s Terms

Sometimes you lead, sometimes life leads- this is the balance to the dance of life

Sometimes you lead, sometimes life leads- this is the balance to the dance of life

Many of us wish to live life on our terms.  We like to feel we are in control and that we are calling the shots.  Life experience tells me this may not be the only way to live.  Like all things in life, nothing ever flows one way.  Even a river has sections where the water flows up- stream and eddies swirl.  Our relationship with life is a two- way process.  It is not just about what you want, for there are terms and conditions to the life you have and the life you want.  In life, to have “X” you also have to have “Y”, the two go hand in hand.  It is the law of balance.  It is the law of the universe.

You start by stating your intention, and then the universe starts to work to make that intention a reality.  So what does that actually mean?

Well, experience tells me that growth is required. If you are to enter this new phase in your life you have to grow to allow it to happen.  If you want to earn more money, you have to grow to be able to earn that money.  If you want to attract different people into your life you have to grow and explore new areas of life and yourself.  Then the choice is back to you.  Will you grow in that direction?  Will you face the challenge?  If so the balance equation begins to shift and the balance in your life changes.

Life’s demands mean that you live on life’s terms, which has always been the way.  Life on your terms gives the illusion of security and certainty.  Life on life’s terms gives the impression that you are not in control.  I would say that both views are an illusion.  In truth it is a dance.  You and life choreograph the life dance together and so you must learn to trust.

You must trust yourself for there are times when you must lead.  And you must learn to trust life, for sometimes life will lead and you must trust that life has your best interests at heart.  Otherwise you will resist and the dance becomes a tense and stressful thing.

We all go through periods when we struggle to trust.  You feel alone and isolated which is a separation you have created.  You have stepped away from life.  Life continues to dance with or without its partner, tempting you in, encouraging you to step back in and embrace the most beautiful dance partner you could possibly imagine.  So dance with life, my friend, enjoy its beauty and flow and challenging steps.

And when your trust is complete you will know that there is a support network around you to guide and protect you, just like the bird that trusts there will be air beneath its wing or the new born trusts there will be milk from its mother.  The universe will provide all that you need, just not necessarily what you were expecting…… but that is a whole other topic!

Flickering Universe

At its most basic level the universe flickers in and out of existence

At its most basic level the universe flickers in and out of existence

Nature is forever changing.  The wind blows moving the trees and the clouds.   The sun and moon move across the sky.  The seasons change.  Our hair grows longer, we learn and age, relationships are born and develop, society evolves and there is an endlessly changing face to technology, industry, science and politics.  No two days are the same.

When we look at the science of this, we understand that things develop around a balance point.  Nature is well-balanced, and tips out of balance, creating the need to bring things back into equilibrium.  In doing this, Nature elicits change, the balance point shifting subtly.  We call this shift, Evolution.  The changing nature of one thing requires the adaptation of another, moving our world forward and keeping it in balance.  Each balancing point is a relationship, like a see- saw, and the experience of that relationship is the interplay of forces around that point.  Tolerance to imbalance is built-in to Nature, is indeed essential, otherwise things could never evolve.  In nature’s complexity, there are so many ways in which balance can be affected, that it is easier to look at nature as a network of interacting elements that stays in balance as a whole.  No individual relationship acts in isolation.  Nothing is disconnected from the whole.

No matter how close you look at nature, you always see these relationships.  Go right down to the smallest sub-atomic particles of the universe, and we see that things are a dance between their imbalance and equilibrium.  Sub-atom particles are not static things.  They have a tendency to change.  Inexplicably and spontaneously, they flicker in and out of existence and alter, and always in relation to a balance point (this balance point scientists call the conservation law of mass- energy).  Every relationship in nature is built on this flickering instability that actually goes to create our changing, evolving world.

These dynamic relationships affect every layer of reality and are the basis for our beautiful and vibrant universe.  From its very foundations, the universe is built on change, centred about balance and harmony that makes for such exquisite dynamic stillness.

Modern man loves his machines!

Modern Man

506976185Modern Man

Life is just great. What a great time to be living in. When I was a child I would think to myself that I was so pleased that I was born at the time that I was. We have cars and aeroplanes; we have electricity and machines to help us. We have plenty of food and nice clothes. We have hot running water and bathes. I thought that modern life in the 50’s Great Britain was just that, great. I was especially happy that I was not a child of the Victorian times who would have worked in a factory or in a field. I had the privilege of going to school and being educated and at the weekends spending time with my sisters and parents. Times change and expectations change.

Standards

By today’s standards we did not really have that much in the days of my youth. Even though aeroplanes existed I had never been on one. I did not know anyone personally that had in those days. My parents had never been on one and no one I knew had either. The first person that I personally knew that did go on one was a friend at school when we were about 12 and she went to Spain for a two week package tour.

If I think back to the time that I grew up in the 50’s and 60’s and how life for me existed then and how it is now, I can see how things have changed. I am sure my mother and grandmother would have said the same throughout their lives. My grandmother was born in 1902 I think and my mother was born in 1927. Both women saw a lot of economic and social change in their time. My grandmother would have seen the birth of the aeroplanes and electricity in the home, electrical appliances, radio, TV, telephones and much more. She saw two world wars and women’s role in society change from one of subservience to men to fighting for equality alongside the men at work and in the home.

Expectations

Life changes as does our expectations along with the passing of time. Modern man loves his machines. There are so many now that we all simply must have. The one I write this on is one of my favourites my little lap top that is so compact and light. I use it to keep in touch with the world. I communicate with friends across the globe.

I write blogs, books and emails on it and I just do not know where I would be without it. If it were taken away from me how would I survive? I recently purchased a tablet and in fact I have two. I have a kindle tablet and a cheap tablet also. I did not purchase an expensive one as I was not sure how the thing would fit into my life. To be honest it has not. My kindle I just use for reading and downloading books. As for the ability to use the net on it, I just don’t.  Am I missing something I wonder some times? I see other people glued to their smart phones and tablets and I just have no use for either. We are all different even in our use of technology. Technology is a good thing.  It brings us a great deal of ease.  I have to admit that sometimes I wonder at what cost and if we don’t pay too much for the price of a gadget.

Choice

We all work harder than we have ever done in modern times. Many of us push ourselves to limits that the mind and body were not designed for. Human beings are quite robust and we don’t break easily. I do see many miserable faces out there in life these days. Not everyone has a smile on their faces. Technology is meant to enhance life and make it better than it has ever been. There are so many people striving for a dream. Each person has their own dream. They each have their own idea of what makes the perfect life. Some dream of owning a Lamborghini and others dream of the latest most expensive handbag whilst others dream of the dream career or job or home. The perfect life dream is something different to each person. We are all individual.

Our life is full of choice and courses. We can choose one thing over the other. We all have collective choice and individual choice. Why do we the individual choose one thing over another? For the most part we choose what will benefit us the most. Benefits come in many shapes and sizes. There are as many benefits to be had as there are choices to make. The beautiful red shoes feed and satisfy the emotions whist the dream job sustains a family and their wellbeing.  Choice seems to bring its own problems. Modern man does have choice but at what cost to his life? If we visit any corner of the industrialised west an array of goods line shop shelves in every area of society. How much does each individual need to own to satisfy their desire for choice and abundance? Each person has a desire for abundance as abundance offers security of life in some respects.

Blight

Is modern man happy? Does our way of life sustain us? We are told that in the west we are overweight and eating poorly. We are told that we are blighted by heart disease and cancer. Why is this? We eat too much of the wrong things in the West and we sit too much and do not move our bodies enough. We drive our cars too much and do not use our legs enough. What is the answer? I just don’t know. Do you?

Energy Therapy- McTimoney Chiropractic- Part 3

Chiropractic therapy works with the alignment of the bones which can become misaligned simply through the process of living. If these misalignments are left untreated they can lead to muscle imbalance, poor posture, pain and the stagnation or pooling of energy in muscles throughout the body.

Chiropractic therapy works with the alignment of the bones which can become misaligned simply through the process of living. If these misalignments are left untreated they can lead to muscle imbalance, poor posture, pain and the stagnation or pooling of energy in muscles throughout the body.

What is McTimoney Chiropractic?
I have known my McTimoney Chiropractic practitioner for many years and know him to be very sensitive to energy in the body. Dr. Steven Aronson was drawn to this line of work when he saw how effective and powerful the McTimoney method had been for a friend. Ostensibly, chiropractic therapy works with the alignment of the bones which can become misaligned simply through the process of living. If these misalignments are left untreated they can lead to muscle imbalance, poor posture, pain and the stagnation or pooling of energy in muscles throughout the body. By realigning these bones, the skeleton can support the body as it is designed to do, allowing the muscles to relax and return the body to its natural fluid, flowing state at rest and in movement. The energy in a well aligned body flows more freely which aids overall health and well-being.

The premise of McTimoney Chiropractic
This method was developed by John McTimoney in the 1970s. He recognised that pain does not always manifest at the root of the problem. The body can become progressively misaligned and it is the McTimoney Chiropractor’s role to assess where these misalignments are and trace them back to the root of the issue. The McTimoney College of Chiropractic website says “The McTimoney approach is typified by a whole body assessment and swift, light force adjustments, which makes it a comfortable treatment to receive. The subtlety of the adjustment demands great sensitivity and mechanical skill, and once mastered the technique is extremely effective.”

My McTimoney Chiropractic session
My session was performed in the calm and tranquil environment of The Therapy Room in Cambridge, UK. Beautiful pictures and lighted candles adorned the room, creating a calming and peaceful space. Though there were other therapists practising in the building at the time, there was no noise or intrusion from elsewhere. The session began with some basic questions about my medical history, issues that I would like to have addressed, as well as an explanation of how McTimoney Chiropractic works and how the session would progress. He assured me that each patient was unique and that he uses many different skills to give effective care including Reiki and Craniosacral therapy. Once I had undressed to my underwear, the session continued with a full body assessment. I was asked to sit on the edge of the treatment table and Dr. Aronson lightly ran his fingers along the length of my spine and across my hips, as well as looked at the way my body held itself as I sat and stood. He explained that by gentle touch he can feel where the bones of the spine are misaligned and that by looking at the body he can see where muscle tension lies and how that pulls the bones out of alignment throughout the body. These subtle imbalances can have a huge impact on the body’s alignment, altering the way we sit, walk, run, lie and generally move placing stress and pressure upon the body, depleting us in energy, health and well- being. Even though I am fit and healthy, there were areas in my spine and hips that were subtly misaligned, Dr. Steven Aronson said.

Each signature light adjustment of the McTimoney method (an exact positioning of the fingers or hand followed by a gentle strike or tap) was followed by a check to see whether the bones had in fact re-aligned. It was only once I left the treatment room that I felt the effects of the adjustments. As I walked away from the session, my body felt more powerful and at greater ease and this feeling grew over the next few days as I settled into my new alignment. It was a strange feeling to have so little done mechanically, and yet I felt so much better for the experience. I am used to the deep soft tissue massage of physiotherapy and the often sore and bruised feeling that can come with that. This was very different, more subtle, yet I would say more effective.

The use of other therapies to augment healing
Dr. Aronson’s skill is not just as a Chiropractor. He used tools from Craniosacral therapy and Reiki when he felt they would be beneficial and told me when he was using them, allowing my body to take whatever it needed from the session to realign, heal and empower itself. This was understood most palpably when I was given the opportunity to sit in on a session with a patient. It was offered by Dr. Aronson as a means for me to better appreciate his process for the benefit of writing this blog and agreed to by the patient concerned. When the patient entered the room I saw a woman who I can only describe as looking as though she felt hollow of energy. She looked as though all her effort was being used to hold herself together. She had come to Dr Aronson for help because she was suffering from long term debilitating migraines that she said had eased during her course of 6 treatments.

On my journey with energy, I have developed the ability to be able to feel energy in my body and in other people’s as well as in the environment around me. It is a subtle feeling that I describe as invisible flowing water- I can feel whether it flows, where it flows and the direction of flow. It requires some concentration on my part, but it feels like I am reaching out with my body and mind for it and I recognize it when I feel it. Dr. Aronson and I discussed the session with this lady afterward and he explained that he was giving her body lots of energy during the session, allowing the lady’s body the opportunity to use the energy as it needed. I could really feel that process taking place. As her session progressed, I could see improvement in her demeanor and feel the energy radiating from her more and more. She seemed so much more relaxed.

Dr. Aronson’s passion to heal and support his clients is evident and he trusts implicitly in the client’s body’s inherent knowledge for perfect health and its ability to regain balance and well being when given the chance to do so. In his own words: “I listen to what my client’s body needs and allow their body to take what is required to achieve perfect health”.

Reflection
I found my sessions with Dr Aronson invigorating. I like the idea of someone supporting and facilitating the body in nurturing and maintaining its own health. It highlights an inherent power that we all have that very often we are discouraged to tap into because we are taught to trust in the effects and benefits of pharmaceuticals and modern surgery.

Any responsible therapist would advocate medication, surgery or other forms of modern medical intervention in the desire to supply effective health care as it is recognised there are some issues that are better treated by conventional means or other therapies. Indeed, one of the points of the overall body check at the beginning of the McTimoney session was to identify potential issues that may be better addressed by a different therapist, doctor or specialist.

The session I observed with Dr Aronson’s lady client most definitely did relieve pain and discomfort for the patient. After her session, the lady and I spoke briefly about how she felt. She said that she had improved so much since she had started her series of 6 sessions (this was number 5). She said she felt far more energised compared to when she walked into the therapy room and that appeared to be the case from what I could observe. For my own session, I can say I felt stronger and at greater ease after the session. I think as an aid to maintaining optimum health, it is very effective and I would consider top-up sessions perhaps 2 or 3 times a year for my overall health and well-being.

The patient I observed clearly felt relief and that does not always happen instantly as I understand it. It can and often does takes time. The body can take time to respond as it heals itself of physical ailments that have taken many years to develop and are often borne from emotional, psychological and habitual issues.

McTimoney Chiropractic works differently to modern drug medication. It does not mask the pain to bring almost instant ease in that way. For more profound issues, many sessions may well be necessary, as was the case for the patient I observed. Sometimes, the issue becomes so severe that the desire to regain full and pain free health outweighs the financial considerations. Even so considering the expense of a Chiropractor over cheaper therapies it may be necessary to consider them over chiropractic should finance be an issue. The free therapies offered by the NHS are of course an appealing option over paying for therapy. Some health insurance companies may include McTimoney Chirpractic treatments which may alleviate financial considerations.

Consider that many people who have complementary therapies are at the end of the health line. They may have suffered for years before they seek the help of a therapist of any kind. Often they cannot be helped by the NHS for whatever reason and the NHS has given what it can and has failed to help. Under those circumstances money may not be the first consideration. The priority is a speedy return to good health and a pain free life.

I would definitely return to Dr Aronson if I needed a treatment for pain or injury. As a martial arts teacher I take injuries very seriously, not least because I do not like being in pain. There is a philosophy to complementary therapies that I am very comfortable with, namely that by treating the whole body, the therapist supports the body in reaching and maintaining full wellness without the use of drugs or surgical intervention.

NHS has made some changes to its policy towards holistic therapies and now people can be given the details of approved therapists by their GP. It would be wonderful to see the NHS embrace these treatments even more and make them available in the UK on the NHS system. Until then, it is a personal choice and life-style commitment by the individual to decide how he/ she exercise his/ her responsibility for health, including food and nutrition, healthcare and exercise.

The Universal Life Orchestra

A Jazz band improvises just as Nature does, connecting to a greater force that speaks to all, coordinating and creating perfection in that moment

A Jazz band improvises just as Nature does, connecting to a greater force that speaks to all, coordinating and creating perfection in that moment

Silence……. and suddenly the orchestra erupts into life.  The sound is created through the harmony of many parts, each musician working individually but flowing together to create a stunning whole.  As each individual instrument changes, the others shift in harmony with it, so that perfection is maintained and the beauty sustained.

What a skill to create such a thing!  What talent to play it, conduct it, compose it and manage the ebb and flow of perhaps fifty or sixty individual parts.  Every musician has trained hard over many years to cultivate and nurture their talents and has created beauty and perfection in their own right.  Now, under the organising influence of the conductor and the composer, these musicians work in concert to perform a harmonious whole that is greater than the sum of the parts.

This is no different to the artist painting hundreds of colours onto canvas or a choreographer directing dancers in a company- there is the individual and there is the group.  There are the parts, and there is the organising force that brings these parts together to create a working whole.

This phenomenon is seen throughout nature.  Each of us, for example, is a group of trillions of cells, each cell performing approximately 100, 000 chemical reactions every second.  Each one of these cells works in harmony with all the other cells in the body to create you, sustain you, maintain you and keep you healthy, adaptable and able to learn, develop and grow throughout you long life.  How incredible is that!!!!!!!?

No less wonderful are the atoms that come together to create the chemicals that make the cell possible or the energy that works in harmony within the atom that brings all of life and the universe into existence.  Think of all the planets that make solar systems that themselves go to make up galaxies.  The universe is made up of billions of galaxies bursting in and out of existence, an individual instrument in its own right, part of an ever- flowing concert or symphony that plays because…….. that is what it does!

It is just as amazing to consider that these things are fluid and adaptable.  A living being interacts with the environment around it, changing in response to conditions, yet at the same time sustaining its form.  It is as if there is a timeless, unchanging centre that maintains balance and equilibrium within itself.  This perfection is achieved without thought.  We know this because the beauty of perfection is visible throughout nature- the delicate symmetry of butterflies’ wings or the shape of a tree.  Adaptability is essential, achieved within the context of balance and perfection.

The Universe is more like a jazz improvisation group, or a band jamming late into the night.  The players have a connection.  Without knowing how, they feel the change in harmony as it happens and adapt to it as its happening.  No different to a flock of birds or a school of fish- they move as one, sensing the movement of the group, not the individual.

What creates this order?  What is the musical score of your body and the Universe?  There is no doubt that there is order to Nature, because this amount of sustained coherence is too incredible to come about simply by chance.  Science is beginning to discover answers to these challenging questions.  It seems that the energy that is the universe is more spread out than we would imagine and interacts with itself through ripples of vibration.  Energy is not the pebble hitting the lake and creating ripples.  Energy is the lake!!!!!  Coded in this energy is information, transmitted within the ripples- the information is a vibration that transmits itself as the ripple moves, spreading across the lake that others can interact with.  This is happening at every point in the universe all the time.  The universe is like a vast lake of ripples.

The waves of the ocean take form and disappear, but they are still made of water, just as the ocean is.  Form is like a wave.  You can see it, touch it, be influenced and affected by it, but it is water, it is no different to the ocean itself.  Form is the same.  You can see it, touch it, be influenced and affected by it, but it is still energy.

This fluid nature of the universe begins to explain why things happen at a distance at the same time, like the flock of birds and the jazz musicians.  The universe is a vast lake of ripples that come in and out of existence and are fluid in nature.   Energy is constantly interacting allowing communication to take place at many levels and all part of the rich tapestry that goes to make our wonderful and mysterious universe- wonderful because of the many combinations of energy the ripples can generate and mysterious because these interactions are often happening beyond our senses and beyond our understanding.

Science is telling us we are interconnected- to each other and with the universe itself.  There are signs of this interconnectedness, events that indicate that we are most content when we are with like- minded people, when we are at one with nature, our loved ones and our pets and most importantly when we are at one with our self.  The harmony of sound in an orchestra, the harmony of colour in a painting, the harmony of shape in a sculpture or architecture and the harmony of minds in a family or working environment are all really the harmonious interactions of energy, the very state of balance and peace of Nature herself.

Your unique message

The Bell

Image

Sit quiet.

Still the room, the body and the mind.

All that remains is Energy.

That feeling is you, the real you at this moment.

You are a silent bell ringing out,

Your vibration touching the world.

This feeling is not your clothes, your home, you car……

These things are not you

This feeling is-

The essence of your actions, your thoughts and the way you see the world.

Touch this and know it to be true

Never allow yourself to be confused again.

You can try to hide it

But you cannot stop the silent bell ringing.

Everyone hears it, so do not deny it.

Embrace it.

Express yourself fully.

You are already that vibration.

Do not be shy, do not be ashamed.

This is you in your completeness.

Hide none of it.

Explore all of it.

Discover all that you can be and become.

It is the journey of truth.

That is all life is about- listening to your own bell

And know that others have silent bells waiting to be heard.

Honour them, cultivate them and nurture them.

And though sometimes the journey may be hard

It will be fulfilling and you will do much.

I promise.

(Taken from Nourish the Flame Within- a guide to connecting to the human soul for Reiki, martial arts and life by Lynette Avis and David Brown)

I wrote this poem after I heard “All You Need Is Love” by The Beatles.  I had listened to the song many times, but this time I heard it.  The wisdom of the words echoed across time, the band members’ silent bells vibrating as they performed their beautiful message.

We are all silent bells, no different from “The Fab Four”.  They were, after all, working class lads from Liverpool.  No different than you or I.  They had a voice and were willing to share it with the world.  The world is a better place for it.

Please do not doubt that sharing your voice with the world will make it a better place.  Find your own way, discover your unique vibration and let your silent chime resonate out across the world.

The world is in dire need of people who are willing to share of themselves, just as people are in dire need to share themselves with the world.  Ring out.  It is what you do.  It is what you are meant to do.  It takes trust, compassion and love.  It may scare you- I know.  But there is so much you have to offer, and it is too good not to share.

With every chime, you nourish the flame within and make it stronger.  Let us create a symphony and build a bridge of sound that connects the world.  Let us create an inferno that warms every heart and nurture a world of peace and harmony.

All we need is love……….
