Energy in the Spotlight

Connection puts us all in the Spotlight

Connection puts us all in the Spotlight

Connection is one of the keys to spirituality. You cannot truly connect unless you open your heart and mind to another- we call it empathy. It is about seeing some one where they really are, how they are truly being in that moment and feeling that in our self- the pain, love, sorrow and joy.

This connection breeds compassion, an understanding that allows healing and forgiving. You practise this on one another and you can practise it on your self.

Everything is a reflection. Seeing pain in others when you are connected brings about pain in your self. Witnessing joy in others when you are connected ignites joy within you. I think we should be prepared to go either route for life is full of both.

To become aware of this connection makes you think twice before you act. It has that affect on me- I may do it anyway, and then it is a more thoughtful, mindful act. It may cause pain and then my apology is more heart felt and genuine because I felt it more deeply.

Seeing things as energy breaks down the imaginary boundaries between them. Without boundaries we are naked, raw and vulnerable. Without boundaries we are reflections of each other in real time- we bleed together, cry together, laugh together and dance together. This is humanity living together in the great River of Life.

When I was a child, I went on a school trip into London. On the underground I saw a tramp on a platform and in my naivety I stood staring at him. A business man saw me do it and said to me “we did that to him”. I felt terrible, guilty and sad. To this day I do not know what he truly meant by that. Perhaps now I have an answer- that without connection, how can we ever hope to help our self and each other and make the world a better place? And, in the tradition of all self growth, the answer becomes another question.

I saw Spotlight recently, a movie about the tale of The Boston Globe’s exposure of child abuse in the church in the late twentieth century. So sad to think these men of power did so much harm. Men who are supposed to be connected to God and doing God’s work, just as Islamic suicide bombers claim to be connected to God and doing God’s work. In my opinion this is the opposite of connection for no connected human being could do this. Why? Because they would feel the pain they cause. The reflected mirror would seer their eyes, burn their hearts and their ears would shatter at the sounds of the screams of pain, guilt and anger. No, these are empassioned people on a crusade not thinking about how their actions are hurting themselves and the world.

And so I ask you not to put your hearts and souls into the hands of people you presume and expect to have your best interests at heart. Instead, be discerning, let your connection and intuition lead you to make insightful decisions regarding your spiritual health and well- being.

The fog lifts hope for the future

I was ill for a long time as I have said in previous blogs. I recently reconnected with an old friend who asked me, “When you were teaching me all of those years ago where you unwell?” “Well yes of course I was” I said. I asked her if I was any different and she said “Yes, I had a lot more energy”. A fibre myalgia client said to me that people just do not understand how ill one is with this illness. Fibre myalgia and M.E. are similar illnesses. “If you had a hand or arm missing people would see your pain and difficulty. Because the pain you feel is internal they can’t see it and so don’t understand the levels of physical pain you are coping with”, she said. This is very true and I would support that entirely.

There is a mental fog that is attached to this illness and the sufferers mental thinking is diminished for the duration of the illness. Some days it is worse than others of course. I found that the things that were so easy in the past were difficult on every level. Anything physical was hard and anything that required my mental capacity was also difficult as my brain just would not work properly.

I am a trained artist and designer and all of my life from my childhood I have used my creative capacity. When I was ill it was almost impossible for me to do anything creative. For about half a decade I did pretty much nothing but sleep. I could not paint, draw or design and it all felt lost to me. I read a lot during those times when I had a break in my illness. That reading took my on a new path. One that I had contemplated years earlier, but had set aside for my first love art.

My love of art started when I was a baby. My mother drew for me a cat. I must have been no more than eighteen months old as I know I was still being carried by her. I never forgot that day she drew the cat. There are times, days, circumstances, people and moments that touch us. They are the jewels of our life. Illness diminishes our capacity to engage fully with life. Both illness and life are experiences. My experience with illness has changed my life. That experience now helps me to connect to others who are going through the same or similar and help them on a road of recovery. For many people illness is a temporary inconvenience. For some it marks the end of their life and for others a road that has to be accepted and endured. Illness can be embraced, endured or fought. It is up to the individual and their circumstances what path is taken. There is no right or wrong way to emotionally deal with illness. The individual decides. I fought my way back to well health. I looked for those answers that would enable me to go home back to myself.

That road home challenged me on many levels. It took me from my own temporary resignation to my horrible situation to a deeper understanding of the human body, life, spirit, soul, and the forces of nature and the universe. Would I change anything? That is a difficult question to answer. I hated being ill and loosing every aspect of myself and self-respect. It is difficult to live with oneself, in illness. I looked in the mirror and I did not see Lynette for years. The strong feisty lady who rolls up her sleeves and gets on with it had gone. The struggle she endured during those ill years was immense on all levels, emotional, physical, mental and spiritual. It was a hard horrible time.

I came through it stronger, wiser, and clearer in my understanding of many aspects of life, more knowledgeable and more skilled. So my difficult time gave me something. It took something and gave me something else in return. So, would I change it? Probably not on balance, I think. I am still here with a somewhat different outlook on life. To be honest I am grateful to the universe for all it has given me over the past sixty years of my life. What is a little bit of fog between the universe and I?

Free Meditation

Meditation, peace and calm.

Meditation

Meditation is a beautiful practice. It can do so many things for the person. There are many reasons to learn to meditate. Meditation can be used for the enhancement of health, emotional balance and life awareness amongst other things. In the West we do not have a culture of teaching or appreciating this beneficial practice. We are largely skeptical and suspicious of it. We often view it as something a bit wacky and “out there. It is something that is not commonly of our culture and seen as a bit pagan even. It is none of those things as it is a very useful tool. I am a meditation teacher and a Hypnotherapist amongst other things and it surprises and saddens me when I come across these views of meditation or even Hypnotherapy. Meditation and Hypnotherapy are very similar practices. They both employ deep relaxation of the person for the enhancement of health and well-being.

We can all meditate as we all go through the place of meditation each time we go to sleep. So we can all do it. People over think what is needed and put a lot of does and don’ts on the practise of it and often make it too complicated. They also try to analyse the process whilst doing it and that should not be done. That will make the process very difficult.  Keep it simple and know that it is just deep relaxation without going to sleep.

Relaxation methodThinkstockPhotos-521855347

Before starting to meditate find a safe and comfortable place. You do not have to adopt any kind of complicated posture. Just sit or lay comfortably in a chair, on the floor on a bed.

Go down into relaxation breathe deeply to a pattern of three. So breath in 1, 2, 3 hold he breath 1, 2, 3 and slowly breathe out 1, 2, 3. Keep doing that until you are very deeply relaxed and then follow the instructions on the meditation. May I suggest you record the instructions in real time on a voice recorder and then listen to it? You have to allow yourself time to go down into relaxation and that generally will take ten minutes. Talk yourself into relaxing by saying things like relax your feet, your legs, your arms etc. Take your time and realise that it will take you time to gain a deep relaxation. You could practice on a friend first before recording to see how long it takes you to get them to relax. They key to relaxation is the breath.

Make sure you do not listen to the recording whilst driving as you will be going off to sleep and that will be dangerous to do. This may seem like the obvious but you will be surprised how many of my students and clients say “oh I can listen to this in the car.” No you can’t.

If you need further instruction on meditation then purchase Nourish the Flame Within and it will give you more instruction on it.

Universal connection through this meditation

This meditation does what it says and it will help to change the person’s outlook.  They only have to do the meditation a  few times. Even just doing it once will change a person to a degree. It connects you to the universal forces and just by doing this meditation those forces will balance the person and they will gain an enhanced perspective on connection as this meditation is for that purpose.

Teaching

If you are a meditation teacher and have violent or aggressive pupils this maybe a meditation to give them as it should have a calming effect on them. Any one of that imbalanced state should gain great benefit from this meditation. It is also good for anyone who just wants to enhance their connection to others. This meditation helps the person to feel others on a deeper level that they do at present. This is the meditation to do to enhance connection to the rest of the human race. There are many reasons to want that. To be more in tune with the rest of the human race as a collective or people as individuals can only be a good thing. Anyone dealing with people on a collective or one to one basis will gain great insight and benefit from this meditation. That has to be just about all of us. The insights may take many forms and will be individual to the individual doing the meditation. This meditation connects you to everyone. Well that is not strictly true as you are already connected, what this meditation does it give you deep insight into that connection on a intellectual and energetic level.

Meditation 2: Connecting into Others and Knowing their Needs.

  1. Take yourself down into relaxation. Now take many shallow slow breaths.

Concentrate on the rhythm of your breathing. Know your own breath pattern. Listen to the rhythm of your own breath. Feel the calmness feel the beauty of each breath.

Know you are an individual.

Know that you are not separate.

Know that you have connection to others of your kind.

You are human and of the human kind.

Know that you have brothers.

Know that you have sisters.

Know that you are one of many.

Know that you are not alone.

  1. Now bring white light energy into your body. Bring in the source. Ask for the hand of God to guide you. Connect to all that there is.

Send out the vibration of healing. Know that it is in your power to do so. Send out to your brothers and sisters. Understand their needs.

As they hurt, so do you.

As they bleed, so do you.

Send out the ray of compassion; send out the ray of love.

Bring your attention to your own body. Now connect your spirit to others.

Understand that you are one of many.

Understand that you are connected at source.

This is universal law. This is universal truth.

Now send out the vibration of connection. You know this connection on a soul level. Send it out, and stay aware and connected. Walk with your brothers as one.

From this moment on, understand all that is.

Understand you bleed as they do.

Understand you are one of many and walk together as one.

  1. Now feel the thread of connection and hold in that place for ten minutes.

Now let the connection slowly diminish. However, always hold this knowledge.

This meditation changes you for all time.

Come back to the here and the now.

The Subtle Energy System

Energy

Energy is a term that is used frequently in our modern society. It is used to describe many things such as artificial energy drinks and foods full of sugar and caffeine as well as the more organic products filled with seeds and exotic fruits.

77295254

Energy is also used to describe the power that heats and lights our homes, offices and public buildings. These forms of energy include oil, gas and electricity as well as renewable forms such as solar, wind, geothermal and tidal. As well as describing foods and heating the term energy is also used to describe body energy and the living experience, both positive and negative.

People inter change the term between these three contexts and it is understandable to see how ideas on these concepts may become confused. Advertising encourages the thought that artificial energy drinks are healthy and will add to health and body energy levels. In reality they give people a false energy high that will subside very quickly. These drinks tend to be filled with sugar that in the long term taxes the body and health.

We also use the term energy to describe aspects of the environment and fuels that we consume from the environment. We have all heard the term used smooch over the past few decades as we are constantly encouraged, and rightly so, to recycle waste and limit our fossil fuel consumption as these things are negatively impactful on the environment.

Modern living

Modern living makes taxing demands on everyone and those demands often leave people with little sleep or poor sleep patterns. Television is twenty four hours a day, seven days of the week now. The internet also gives us constant entertainment as it gives us gambling, shopping, gaming, and social media opportunities. There are endless distractions to grab your attention. There seems little time for life commitments such as work and family who are seeking our attention as well.

These are not easy dilemmas to address as our society encourages people to live in ways that are not in the best interests of their physical, mental, emotional or spiritual health or the good health of the planet. The more serious and meaningful is often left aside for the more destructive or trivial.

A need for change

There is a new trend of thinking that acknowledges this old negative way of living and the need for change. This new trend recognises that there is a relationship between these different facets of energy for all things are inter- related.

Subtle energy

In the various areas of our work we have both talked often about energy. Primarily we are talking about an energy that has been known for thousands of years in the ancient world. It is an energy that the modern world is now beginning to think about and explore in a more considered way. This energy is known as subtle energy or universal energy and it consists of a mixture of electricity and magnetism, which is found naturally in the human body. This energy is known by many names in both the ancient and our modern world. It is known by such names as, Ka, by the ancient Egyptians and Chi, Ki, Prana and Psychic to name just a few in the modern world. All cultures have a name for this energy.

There are seven major chakra points. Each is an energy reservoir that sends electromagnetic energy around the body. Electro magnetic energy is also known as Chi/Ki and Prana amongst other names. This subtle energy needs to be in a healthy condition to keep all levels of the person in good health. Alcohol, poor sleep patterns and stress are some of the things that will interrupt the subtle energy system of the body.

We have often discussed in our blogs the energies that are all around you as they impact that delicate energy system of the body to bring about wellness or destructiveness in the body and life. All things are interconnected and all energy on some level will interrelate.

Subtle energy can be affected by life choices such as sleep, eating habits and stress as all of these things can block subtle energy’s efficiency as it flows through the body. On a wider context earth energy as it is emitted from the centre of the earth also affects and impacts the efficient flow of your subtle energy through the body as will celestial energy, which is given to us via the sun, moon and the stars. The environment and the conditions around you will impact and affect the efficiency of subtle energy within your body also. So it is important that you live in a clean and calm environment for optimum health. Modern life does not always afford you the correct requirements for a healthy subtle energy system, as much of our modern world is polluted with dirt, poison and noise, all of which will damage the body and the energy system on some level. We are also surrounded by electromagnetic signals from lights, TVs, computers and mobile devices that will affect the subtle energy of the body.

It is named the subtle energy system; however it is of huge importance to the individual and their living experience. It brings life and vitality to the body as well as connecting the individual to all levels of life itself.

Subtle energy flows through the body naturally, just like your blood flows through your veins, it flows through a system of meridians which are unseen in the body but can be felt by the individual as the energy flows to various parts of the body. On an everyday level if the system is working well the individual will not feel the energy flow. However, when the energy is impacted in a negative way and parts of the body are not receiving the energy, the body will react and start to break down. As the energy is returned to the body the individual may well feel the energy move through the body and experience this movement as short lived pain or energy ripples through the meridians. For optimum health your subtle energy must flow freely through the body. It is in free flow that the body will be in the best health as the cells will be continually fired and fed by the vital life giving electricity and magnetism. It is both of these energies, electricity and magnetism, in combination that makes subtle energy.  This energy is the life blood of the universe as it flows through every living thing equally. It connects you to all life.  Having your subtle energy system in good order is best for your body, mind, emotions and spirit as that is what balance is.

A healthy subtle energy system

There is a great deal that the individual can do to keep their subtle energy system in good health. Sleep for at least eight hours a night in a dark room with no light. Get regular sleep and not disjointed sleep. This is not easy for shift workers. However block out and black out the light as much as you can.

83311999

Eat healthily as the quality of food itself will impact the energy system. The colours of foods impact the energy system of the body as does the type of foods. Eat lots of blues and greens, like leafy vegetables and fruits. However keep your diet balanced. Don’t just eat blues and greens exclusively as this will bring imbalance and have a negative impact on the energy system and the body.

Be mindful of alcohol and all drugs both pharmaceutical and illegal. They all have a harsh impact on the energy system and so only use prescribed drugs as needed and prescribed by your doctor.

Keep away from all stress. This is a tricky one in modern life. Visit a green space regularly. Don’t underestimate the need your body has for that. Urban living has its benefits. It has its drawbacks also as long periods in cities without interacting with the natural world can be negatively impactful on your well-being. The natural world is replenishing and we all benefit from connection to it.  A green garden with plants and flowers will suffice for its replenishing ability.

495540657

Keep your energy system in balance as that is what well health is, your body and system completely in balance. Meditation is a good way of returning your energy system to good order as it directly impacts it and balances it. Also visualisations such as colour visualisations will do wonders for a poor energy system. Once the energy system is balanced it will help to bring well-health back to the body.

Do plenty of regular exercise, yoga, martial arts, Qigong, and general movement of the body will help keep the energy system flowing.

Be mindful of the quality of the earth energy as it comes up to you. Of all thus far on our list, this may confuse or tax most people the most. In modern life by and large people do not have a very good conscious connection to the earth energy as the ancients did. We wear shoes as a rule, and that disconnects our direct connection with the quality of the earth energy. We do not take note of good energy or bad energy as it is absorbed by the body until we become ill and the source of that illness is confusing or without explanation.

The context

When you hear the word energy being used, we invite you to be thoughtful of the context it is used in.

  1. Is it to do with utilities, transport and industry?
  2. Is it used in the context of diet, food and drink?
  3. Is it being discussed in relation to the subtle energy system of the body and maybe the wider universe?

That context is all important. The two former uses of the term energy are modern concepts of the term while the latter is an ancient understanding of the workings of the human body, the earth and the wider universe that is largely ignored by modern western science and people. However things are changing slowly as more people are prepared to use energy therapies and understand first hand their healing and therapeutic benefits. This will inevitably lead to more acceptance of this old knowledge as its use spreads and it becomes more widely accepted.

We are both committed to teaching and sharing this old knowledge and being a part of spreading this wisdom to all who wish to use, know and understand.

We invite you to learn about the power of your subtle energy and become your own healer by understanding how to live a healthy life. Your life is diminished without a healthy body, the subtle energy system and subtle energy flow in good order is integral to a healthy body and healthy life. We look forward to sharing information with you and helping you to be balanced, well and healthy.

Isolation and Loneliness

029Number 5 in Lynette’s “My Story”, series.

Illness is hard work

Illness is no easy task. Most people will be ill at some time in their life. Illness is a part of the living condition. Our bodies are wonderful things they will keep us well for the most part as long as we give them the conditions to do so. When we become ill it can be a tough road. Illness can highlight the shortcomings of ourselves, life, situations and people around us.

We would all like to think that when we become ill there will be good friends and family around to support us in our time of need. This is not always the case for many people. Even if we do have good people around us they may not have the skill ability or time to give us all that we may need to make us feel supported. This lack of support whether it is real or felt can be an added burden and stress to the person who is ill in a time of need.

Support

Many people become ill and do not have the necessary emotional and practical support around them. This will be detrimental to recovery as it will be an additional burden on the body with added stress and will not aid recovery. I remember how unsupported I felt when I was ill. I had family around me my husband and son, but my son was in his teens and struggling with his own issues as teenagers do. My husband did the best he could to hold the fort, he worked and did long hours traveling to London from our home each day. He was up early and home late and then there was a teen age son, a house, and a wife that was unwell to support. He did not have much energy left for himself. They were our difficult times as a family.

So I really can empathise with anyone who is in this situation. I felt cut off, alone and lonely much of my time in those days. I struggled with my illness and tried to do my best for my family. My illness was one of depleted energy and pain, I had M.E. Obviously any added burden to an illness will not be good for the person in the long run. Stress can be detrimental to health and so to add stress will not be good for the recovery of the person.

Laughter

Laughter is a good tonic for people who are unwell. It is a good tonic for the well and unwell alike. It raises the vibration of the person and this helps to promote well health. We all have a vibration to our body. Everything has a vibration.  When our body is well it vibrates at well and positive, and when we are unwell it vibrates unwell or negatively. We can change this vibration or encourage it to change in many ways. Laughter helps to do this. Think of people who are unwell and think about how they feel. Now bring to mind the thought of people who are well and full of energy and think about how they feel. The unwell and the well feel different to be around. People who are unwell tend to sap energy and can make you feel depleted and the well and vibrant person does the opposite. They help to energise you.

Chi/ Ki energy

As a Reiki master I know that when people are unwell they seek to be exposed to chi energy. We know in the core of our being that this energy is health giving. Chi/Ki energy is electro-magnetic energy that occurs naturally in the body. Energy probationers use this energy to good effect in healing many health conditions of the body. Find yourself a good energy practitioner. We can impact our vibration by energetic healing such as Reiki, cranial sacral therapy, hypnotherapy, and acupuncture to name a few. All of these forms of healing will or can change the vibration of the person to the well vibration or well state depending on the knowledge and effectiveness of the practitioner involved. Obviously there is an element of skill and knowledge to the use of these therapies.

In the Company of others

Being around others who are well and in cheerful disposition will help the person who is unwell. These people vibrate at the well vibration and happiness can be transferred. We have all been around happy people and sad people at some time. Or we have been around positive people and negative people. All sorts of personalities and people cross our paths in life. Each personality and disposition will have an influence on our own. If we are around people who  are sad or negative this will reduce our own vibration as we start to be effected by them and start to mirror their vibration, or what they are radiating. I am sure many of you have walked into a gathering of people and their mood was very up and cheerful and immediately it raised your feeling of wellbeing. We all like parties or gatherings that are going with a swing or good vibration. Equally we may have walked into a gathering of people and just felt the energy of the room flat or negative. Something was going on but we did not necessarily know what but just felt it. None of us like being in or part of negative or flat gatherings. They make us feel flat or negative and serve to lower our mood or vibration.

Self- help

  1. If you are unwell, try your best to keep your spirits/vibration up. This will be beneficial to you in the long run. It will add a positive vibration and therefore you will not add any further negativity to the body at a time when it has enough of it to deal with.
  2. Be amongst cheerful positive people they will raise your vibration and this will be of help to you.
  3. Consider energy healing. This is the part of healing that modern medicine does not deal with. Energy healing adds to the body a vital health giving ingredient which speeds up healing in the sick and unwell.

Caring for the unwell

If you are looking after a person who is ill or you have ill people to deal with try to keep their vibration/mood high this will aid and speed up their recovery. It may lighten your load also.

If you know someone who is ill and isolated try to be kind and help in whatever way you personally can. Sometimes a bunch of flowers, putting their dustbins out or a smile and a wave will lighten their load and raise their vibration. One day it may be you that needs your vibration supported by others. We don’t know if one day it may be ourselves that needs help and support with illness.

Stay healthy, stay happy, be supportive to the unwell.

Holistic Therapy

Chiropractic therapy works with the alignment of the bones which can become misaligned simply through the process of living. If these misalignments are left untreated they can lead to muscle imbalance, poor posture, pain and the stagnation or pooling of energy in muscles throughout the body.

Chiropractic therapy.

Holistic Therapy

The working life of a holistic therapist is not always easy. I had a client last year who came to me because they said I only practiced Reiki. I did not tell this client that was not true until they visited me. They were disappointed in me and promptly removed themselves from my care. I am not sure what benefit they saw in me only knowing one discipline. I have equally heard such stories from my fellow therapists.  Most therapists know and practice more than one therapy. It is not a case of learning one and specialising. Of course there are therapists who only have one therapy, but that is not the norm by far. Take a look at therapist websites and you will see that many practise many disciplines.

I can equally understand why the public may see this as a therapist being a jack of all trades. However this is far from the truth. It is easy to understand why many holistic therapists decide to learn more than one therapy.

As a therapist myself that has qualified in more than one therapy, I would be a little apprehensive to visit a therapist who just had one therapy under their belt. Although I am not saying I would not visit such a person. It depends on the therapy and the therapists’ reputation for results.

CPD, Continuing professional development

ThinkstockPhotos-511136335

Therapist are required as part of the regulations for belonging to many professional bodies, to do ongoing professional development, each year. Sometimes this can be tricky to fulfil I can tell you. A very easy way to fulfil the requirements is to undergo further training by way of workshops or in other therapies. Often training in another holistic therapy will fulfil the requirement for a few years. Extending the existing holistic knowledge of the therapist is seen as a positive thing and not a negative thing to do. All knowledge has to be good as it broadens the awareness and understanding that the therapist may have of how the body works and how they can impact the health of their client in a positive manner.

Workshops

ThinkstockPhotos-477281818

Workshops help to extend the therapists knowledge by way of short weekend or day courses. I find these very valuable as they often give me a taste of other therapies and energy knowledge. I am a colour therapist and I tend to use colour therapy in a very supportive way to my other therapies. I never use colour therapy as a main therapy for my clients. Recently, I went on a weekend workshop that was focusing on colour and sound. Sound is another of my therapies. We were given finger lights to use to illustrate the impact of coloured light on the body. Finger lights are little lights that young people use at raves and parties to shine light into a darkened dance floor. They are meant as fun little gismos. We used them to shine light on the back of each other in the workshop and the person had to say where the light was being shone. Not one person got it wrong even though they could not see where the light was being shone. This experience made me revisit something that I know well; the impact that coloured light has on the body and colour in general. I needed this little exercise to remind me of this fact and how I can use this exercise and piece of knowledge for my own students and clients.

Client’s affinity

157703201

Some clients will have an affinity with one therapy over another purely on emotional grounds. I can get the work that I need done for the client by switching my approach using one therapy over another. Each individual is different and will come from a personal emotional stand point. If they have had a negative experience with one therapy very often they will not try it again, even though it they may be experiencing the therapy via a different therapist. This has to be respected and it is impossible for any therapist to insist that a client has any therapy. So how can they help if a particular therapy is not suiting a client? Having knowledge of more than one therapy makes a great deal of sense for both the client and the therapist.

Using multiple therapies

Sound therapy with colour in the backgraound.

Sound therapy with colour in the background.

Each therapy brings its own impact on the condition of the body and person, and using each therapy in conjunction with another can sometimes have a greater impact. Sometimes if a client is particularly highly strung or stressed I will give them one or two Reiki sessions prior to giving Hypnotherapy sessions as that helps me work much more easily with that person and they have to learn to do less work at relaxing. The Reiki brings them into a naturally relaxed state that goes far beyond the session itself.

ThinkstockPhotos-512802073

Colour has an impact on our emotions, physical and mental health. It can make you cheerful and uplifted or down and sad, depending on the colour and your response to that colour.

If a person is very emotional I can tell them how to use colour in their dress, décor and generally around them to combat that stress quickly. These are very simple things and highly effective. Colour and light impact our being on all levels. We have physical, emotional and spiritual responses to colour and light.

I consider the therapies that I know as part of my tool kit bag. Just as a builder or carpenter has a correct tool for a particular job in their tool bag, so have I. All of the therapies that I use are part of my therapy tool kit. I do not offer one therapy over another to a client just as an experience for money. I want results for my client and my tools bring those results and that is the point.

Deepening knowledge

There are seven major chakra points. Each is an energy reservoir that sends electromagnetic energy around the body. Electro magnetic energy is also known as Chi/Ki and Prana amongst other names. This subtle energy needs to be in a healthy condition to keep all levels of the person in good health. Alcohol, poor sleep patterns and stress are some of the things that will interrupt the subtle energy system of the body.

As my knowledge of energy has deepened over the years learning each of my therapies, I have come to understand that each therapy is just a different approach to impacting the client’s energy system or body. Sometimes one therapy will not do the work that I require effectively enough for that particular client and so I can call on the other therapies and energy knowledge that I possess. I do not see this as a negative state of affairs but of infinite benefit to my client’s wellbeing and management.

Each therapy I have learnt over the years gives me another way of bringing healing to my clients; all have deepened my knowledge of how the body works both energetically and physically. I have learnt how energy impacts the energy system and the body to good effect. I know that if I needed the help of a holistic therapist I would look for one that has a good reputation of gaining healing results and not one who necessarily specialises in one therapy.  Broad and deep knowledge makes sense to me.

Diagnosis M.E.

When I was diagnosed with M.E. it was a welcome relief. To be honest, even though I had heard the term M.E., I did not know much about the illness. I had heard in the 1980’s that young successful people would go down with the illness due to overwork.

I had a bacterial infection that almost killed me as it had made me very unwell. The doctors could not sort the bacterial infection out easily and on closer inspection on my overall health they came to a diagnosis of M.E.  When I received the diagnosis of M.E., I had no understanding of what that illness would mean to my life in the coming years ahead.  I suffered a great deal under the umbrella of that horrible illness. There were days of pain, where every bone and muscle in my body hurt. My body just did not work anymore. Something had been switched off and I just could not switch it back on. My energy levels did not exist anymore and I felt constantly sick and ill. If I ate I felt ill and if I did not I felt just as unwell. However I felt constantly hungry and I just never knew what to do to make myself feel comfortable. This went on for many years day after day.

No hope

The trouble with M.E. in those days was the illness was not understood and there was no medical cure or way forward with the illness. It is much the same today also. The medical profession do not know what to do to treat the illness, or how to cure it.  Doctors know what a horrible illness this is but the public by and large did not then and still do not understand what this illness means to the sufferer, by and large.  Although it is getting a little better as many people now  know a friend acquaintance or family member who has suffered with M.E.  I am sad to say that not much has changed over the years and there is little hope for the sufferer.

No help available

The medical profession did not give me any help with my illness as there was none to be given. I am sure if there had been something available I may well have been offered it. Nothing was ever offered to me as a help to my situation.

I remember going to the doctors many times over the years feeling very weak, ill and helpless and knowing that my symptoms were a result of my illness and there would be nothing that they could offer by way of help.  I went to see them anyway. I am not sure why. Maybe it was because as a symptom of my M.E. I would get infections almost weekly and have to have antibiotics all of the time. I hated having to go to the doctor and I hated the antibiotics even more.  That is just ridiculous I know, but it was about the emotional struggle of the whole situation and not the doctor or the medicine that I really hated.

There are so many illnesses that cannot be helped or cured. We think often of doctors as magicians that will wave a magic wand and make us better.  Very often that is indeed the case, but not always so.  They do the best they can within their circumstances and that which is available to them. That does not always help when we feel very ill.

In the end I gave into my illness as that is all I could do at the time. However in time I decided  I just would not give a moment more of my time to this horrible illness and I looked for a solution. I found my solution. Mine was in rest and Reiki. It helped me get my health back and my life back on track.

Holistic Support

Holistic therapies are being taken much more seriously by the medical profession as they are coming to understand the emotional support as well as the therapeutic and healing help that they can offer the patient alongside their own conventional treatments.

A colleague of mine said recently, that a doctor had said, they did not refer their patients for holistic therapy because that made them feel as if they had failed. Well my response to that is this: If you have given your best to your patient how can you have failed them? Therapists are duty bound to refer their clients to their GP if it is a condition that is outside the scope of their therapy. They have to give treatments that are supportive of any treatment the G P is giving.

Holistic benefit

At the end of the day it is the patient/client’s health and well-being that is the most important factor and not the pride of the therapist or the doctor in question. I did not have any such complaint with my doctors. I did not feel they failed me at all. They did not offer me holistic therapy. I have no idea on their policy with such practice.

I have a client who I helped last year. She came to me with an illness her doctor could not help with and within six weeks I had improved her illness so much so that she hardly suffers with it at all now. She can get on with her life and has just a very slight relapse from time to time. In time I feel that may well go as well.

Holistic therapy can offer a great deal of benefit to many conditions and many people. My client said to me that when I was suggested to her, she wondered what I could do that the doctors had not done or could not do. Well holistic therapies approach health from a different stand point. We look at the energy condition of the body and not the body as a machine. It is not better or worse than what the medical profession does it is just a different way at coming at the problem, and sometimes that is what is needed in some conditions.

Reiki made me better

My doctors were very patient with my illness but could not help me. I thank them for their time and patience as that helped me emotionally, and that emotional help was something of a support to me. However, Reiki made me better.

Health and Success in the New Year

529745947O.K., so the mince pies have been eaten and you have stuffed your face with as much turkey, Christmas pudding and cake as you could humanly manage. You washed it all down with as much alcohol as your liver would allow, without sending you to A&E. It is now after News year’s eve, where you partied to the wee hours and you now feel sick and want to throw up. To be fair, you have not yet, but you really do feel like it and your skin is looking a funny shade of green. Not to mention your throbbing head.

Your body isn’t looking good. Very bloated and round. You are trying to convince yourself that the mince pies got worked off on the short walk to the party, but somehow it does not cut it. Alright admit it you have eaten too much and it is now showing in the poundage of your body and you drank too much and you are green. Fat and green to sum it up, so now what?

Well there is the New Year’s resolution of course. Get fit, get healthy and you could join the local gym. But you have done that before and the enthusiasm does not last past the beginning of February. This is called after festivity depression; a reality check after the revelry.

It is good to have a good time and Christmas is just the best time for that as so many people are up for the party. Life has to be full of good and happy things as they are the most fulfilling to us. However, should we really be partying until we go green? Maybe a lighter shade of something more appealing would be better. Being excited and loosing ones inhibitions can be a good thing sometimes. We all have our shyness’s and insecurities at any age. So alcohol is good for that. It will take that away for a short time and allow a freedom in the moment.

However, the freedom was short lived; you now understand this as you stand in front of the mirror looking at your unappealing green pallor. You could have saved yourself all of this by not engaging in the fun and not being at the festivities or participating. There is no fun in that either. So what is the answer? May I suggest moderation?

If you were moderate you could have enjoyed it all without feeling sick and going green, with a fat body and a throbbing head. This sounds like brutal advice, and it is to be fair. This was something I learnt a long time ago. Moderation is the key to a happy life. Satisfy your taste buds but don’t pile on the pounds with large quantity. Large quantities of anything will have a negative effect on your health or oppress you in time.

Last year at about this time I met a really lovely young man. He came to me as a client for therapy. He had a cocaine addiction and he looked so ill. As a mother and a caring individual my heart went out to him as he said to me, this started as a party and now it is a nightmare.

Often we make our own nightmare. Part of life is joining in the party. The ultimate party is life itself of course, and so we have to weigh a great deal up. We have to weigh up what is the right path for us as individuals. If we look down the road just a little bit we can be more controlled and thoughtful about the decisions we take.  The party seemed a good idea at the time, and maybe it was. However in hindsight was it? Your party was your making. A long, healthy and happy life needs a wee bit of control on our part and appropriate decisions made for our future anything if we are to have one at all. Life is a learning journey and none of us have all of the answers at any one time. We learn many things along the way in life as we develop over time. It is good to have fun at any age but don’t pay for it with your life, or quality of life. That is too high a price for a party.

May 2015 be peaceful, content and filled with the good things of life for you.

All the best for the New Year, Lynette.

Miss Stress Ball

Miss Stress Ball

Miss Stress Ball

The My Story series continues with number three in the series, “Miss Stress Ball”.

I was a very quiet shy child. Life taught me to keep my mouth shut and keep a low profile. I was born in a time when you did not answer your elders and betters back. If you had an opinion you were to keep it to yourself as no one wanted to hear it from a child or teenager. That did not suit me as I was always a deeply thinking person.

Teachers

I am of mixed race and was born in the 50’s in London, Great Britain. Being mixed race was not an easy thing at that time. At school many of my teachers left me in no doubt that they did not want me in their class on the basis of my colour. Not all teachers where like that, I did have many kinds and lovely people who were my teachers and mentors along the way. However, the first teacher that made it clear to me that I was not wanted as a pupil by her was when I was five and first entered school. She made me cry most days until my mother had enough and went to the school and gave her what for. I remember hearing my mother say to the teacher if my daughter comes home one more day crying because of you, then you will go home crying. My mother was a tough woman.

Unkindness

Some of the children were unkind also and most would not play with me and did not include me. The boy next door threw a stone at me as I passed his house one day on the basis of my colour and called me all sorts of unkind names. The children who played in my street one day would not let me join in their game and said I t was because I was dirty. When I looked at my dress and hands, I showed the children and said no look I am clean. They replied with you are black and not white and you are dirty.

My Stresses

These were my personal early stresses in life. Times have got somewhat better with such things. Many people do try hard to be tolerant to all races now. Not everyone has this inclusive mind set even today. Life can be hard and cause us all sorts of stresses. Many of those stresses can start very early in our lives. As a hypnotherapist I know that most people when they come to me for help have had some sort of trauma/traumas at some point in their life. Stress always has a root.

I continued to gather stress as I went through life and as life dealt me many difficult situations to deal with. I had good ones too, but stress builds up in the body as negative energy and has to be removed. The body will accommodate an amount of it but when the sub-conscious mind and body becomes over loaded the person will break down in some way. It could be physical, emotional or even mental.

A Broken Body

My body broke down eventually and I fell into ill health, with M.E. The signs of stress were there in my life in my thirties and my friends joked and called me miss stress ball. I was a person who just would not give in to life and would just fight through the worst of it.

Everyone has a story and reasons why they become stressed. Life is stressful for all sorts of reasons. Stress must be dealt with and we all need to be mindful that we are impactful on each other in the things we do and say to each other. Why add stress to another person’s life. Life itself gives each of us enough of it.

Dealing with stress

I have dealt with my stress and ill health and the two things that help me the most are meditation and Reiki. I use both of those things to keep my stress in check. So effective have they been in my life that I teach these techniques to people when they need to manage stress in their lives in an effective way.  In the book “Nourish the Flame within” that I have written with David Brown I explore meditation and Reiki as means of combating stress.  If you would like to learn more about using Reiki and meditation to combat stress you can get a free e- book from our website or purchase a copy of our book “Nourish the Flame Within.”

Alive, Well and full of Good Vibration

186475534

We are all alive in this moment. However how alive is alive? Each person must put effort into their lives to gain the most from it. It is not that living is hard that is the problem or that the effort that is put into things goes un-noticed. It is really the quality of that effort that is the key. If we put a low quality of effort into our projects then less will ensue from that effort. Effort and quality of effort has its own particular vibrational signal.

For instance everything has a vibration and all things have a particular quality of vibration. Laughter has a high vibration and sadness has a lower vibration. If we attack our lives and days with laughter and happiness then we bring a high lighter vibration to all of our situations. Laughter and lightness is expansive and it is engaging to all. Whilst misery is engaging to no one as it is contractive.   Think about it, how many miserable people do you like to be around? Not many I bet. We are only around these people for a short a time as we can manage. These people bring our own mood down and are draining to us. Everything has a vibration. All people places and things, including emotions and states of being have their own vibration.

Happy People

Who likes to be around happy people? Hands up! Everyone does. That is because these people feed our own energy system and raise our vibration. They mostly have a positive impact on us. We all like to be at happy social occasions as they feed out soul. However there are some people who do not like to be around happy people. This is usually because they feel out of their comfort zone due to shyness or social awkwardness, or perhaps because they are out of sorts themselves. These people either feel resentful of happy people being happy as they are not in that place themselves.  Or they just find them tiring due to the high energy levels that happy people exude.  This will be the case if the person is physically ill with low energy levels usually.  Rest, peace and quiet will be more likely what you need.

If you are emotionally depleted and just a little out of sorts then happy people are what you need. They will raise your low vibration and be infectious to you. They will have energy for you to sap as they will be giving off energy in abundance.  Have you ever met a person who was a little fed up or even depressed and after talking to them you found yourself feeling low on energy or emotionally drained? Well there is your reason. They sapped your energy levels.

However if you are very unwell or really very lacking in energy happy energetic people can be more draining to you in the short term. As maybe what you need is just rest and peace and quiet. As I said before everything has its own vibration and we are affected on all levels of our lives by vibrations and the quality of each and every vibration.

Social Gatherings and Personal Vibrations.

People who do not like to be amongst vibrant people tend to hate social gatherings. These tend to be people who find engaging with others difficult. The difficulty of social engagement lays in the differences in vibrational levels of the people. If a person has a weak vibration then they will be less likely to like being around people with a strong vibrational signal. They will feel engulfed by that as well as perhaps threatened by it. People who are shy have a weak vibrational signal. Think about it, most of us have encountered someone who’s shy. Close your eyes and think about that encounter. Were you intimidated by that person? No you were not. They were non-threatening and maybe you found their demeanour a little irritating and maybe even pathetic depending on who they were and the circumstances of the encounter.  Don’t get me wrong I have had my moments of shyness as probably many of us have.

These attributes can be overcome with a little self-confidence, experience and knowledge. Shyness has its own vibration and it is a weak vibration. What is required is a change in mental state to raise the vibration of the person. All vibrations are responded to by others who are feeling that vibration. In the main most people find social gatherings especially family gatherings a blast and love to be invited to such gatherings.

Raise the Vibration

It is partly to raise our own vibration and to make ourselves feel good, that we all go to social gatherings. We can also raise our own vibration by just thinking of happy things. Good memories of past happenings and occurrences will do the trick and raise our vibration. The brain does not know what is real and in this moment or in the past. It does not differentiate between happy things that have actually happened to us and happy things that we have seen and understood. So you can make anything up and your brain will accept it as true for you. I am happy right now. Say it and tell yourself it often and it will become true for you in reality. You will raise your vibration and you will understand the truth of what I am saying here to you now. In time you will feel happier and other people will respond to you in a positive happy way. Life will change and that change may be fast or slow but positive happy thoughts will bring positive change.

Look for the things that will feed your soul and make you happy. Look for people who are on that high vibration and are positive and happy to feed your soul. Settle for nothing less than that which will enhance your situation. We all meet people who are in a down or depressed state from time to time. Please share this knowledge with them and try to get them to do affirmations each day. I am happy fulfilled and in a good space….that kind of thing. Train your brain and get these people to train theirs. I know depression is an illness but it is also a choice for some people.  Take active steps to alleviate states of depression with positive actions and thoughts.

We all from time to time become down for one reason or another but there is no need to feed these states. There is a lot that we can do personally to change our mood. Life does not just fall into our laps. Or at least for most people it does not. So we all have to go out there into life and carve it for ourselves. This takes time effort and self-belief on our part. That is a story for another day. The message for today is know that you can change your mood by raising your own vibration.
