The Universe Influences

ThinkstockPhotos-177794827Mind body connection

There are many books on the market that talk about the mind and body connection or the mind and life connection. Books such as the Secret and authors such as Louise Hay have used and shared this mind- life, mind- body understanding. Hypnotherapy is a practice that centres on those connections and uses them for the benefit of the client’s health and well-being. The connection between mind and body and mind and life is very well understood by health and well-being professionals.

We also have a connection to the Universe. We are the Universe. We are not separate from the Universe. Every moment of every day we have a profound connection to the totality of the Universe. If you consider yourself separate from the Universe please answer this. Where did you come from? What made you? What are you made from?

You are energy

You are energy through and through. You are made of the stuff of the universal stars. You are no different to them. You have your place amongst them. They are energy and so too are you. The Universe came into being a long time ago and we can say it has a life of its own. It too lives and breathes as you do. Stars come and they go. The Universe experiments with energy on many levels, life forms come and go depending on how successful they are within the universal experiment. You are made of the stuff of the stars. The universe created you to live and breathe. It created you to live a life. Life can be challenging. Many things both good and bad happen within a life. People cross each other’s paths, sometimes those meetings and crossing are good and happy ones with fulfilling outcomes. Other times they are not so. If they are considered good or bad it will depend on the view points and agendas of those doing the analysis. Each person has free will and choice. Each person has a mind of their own. Each person has thought patterns and processes. These thought patterns and processes are unique to the individual. The individual ultimately gets to choose how they think. Their thought processes help them to make sense of the world and understand it to a degree.

Your life influence

It is not commonly understood by the general public that there is a mind connection with life itself. We think from the point of view that thinking and action will bring about a result.  It is true that thinking, decision and action will do that.  Results will be gained efficiently by using thinking decision and action and should not be underestimated as it plays an important role in taking the individual forward in a chosen direction. However what is not as easily understood by people in general is that they have another field of influence upon life. This is an energetic one. We can bring situations or people in our direction by our energetic connection to life and the Universe on all levels.

The Universe thinks and heals itself

The Universe is a thing. It lives, breaths and thinks. It has consciousness throughout. Human beings are also energy with consciousness. We too are energy that thinks. It is like two heart beats, the universal heart beat and the human heart beat. They can beat in synchronisation or out of synchronisation. So we can be conscious and energetically in tune with the Universe or out of tune with the Universe.

We all have influence on our lives, the lives of others and our thoughts and decisions through physical interaction, conscious thought and energy interaction and manipulation. There is an energy that permeates the Universe that influences everything. It is the catalyst that fires the Universe on all and every level. This energy is called Universal energy. It is known by many names and every culture has a name for it. It’s made up physically of a combination of electricity and magnetism. It is electromagnetic energy. It permeates all life on all levels. It is a carrier or information. It carries thoughts, ideas and beliefs around and throughout the Universe. It is a universal telegraph wire. It carries information everywhere. This background energy is known to science and they are calling it “The field”. Esoteric people and healers have called it Universal energy, Chi, Ki, Psychic, and Pranic energy amongst other names. It has been known to man for many thousands of years and the Chinese have understood its healing properties and how to exploit them for five thousand years.

Transferring Universal information

Everything you think and feel is carried into the world as energy. It is carried around the earth and out into the Universe on the back of Universal energy. Your thoughts are transferred through Universal energy to all parts of the Universe. We have all heard of the Aboriginal people of Australia and the fact that they have telepathic abilities. If what I have said holds water and it does, then this is a perfect explanation to those abilities.

You have both connection to and influence upon the Universe. You are part of the Universe and a part that makes up the totality of the Universe. Your thoughts and actions and deeds add to or take away from the Universe. You are important to the Universe. There is a responsibility to the Universe by you to it. Whether you consciously acknowledge that responsibility or not is your free will and choice.

Your Universal life

The Universe acknowledges you and the life it gave you. It will interact with you on many levels. It gave your life to you and in time it will take that life back. How you live that life is your free will and choice. If you interact with the Universe consciously, this is too your free will and choice. It is for you to understand that the choice is yours and you can exercise it at will. The Universe will respond to your thoughts and actions. Not with fire and lightening but with situations, people and circumstance to your ultimate benefit.

Benefit comes in many textures. Some rough and some smooth. What you may feel benefits you may not be the same thought and understanding to the Universe. However, it is not the point of living to give you a hard time to punish you. We are strengthened by being stretched. We always have the Universe’s ear when things are unbearable to us. Speaking your truth, thoughts, wants, needs and desires to the Universe is not seen as selfish but a necessary part of your right and growth. The Universe hears you. A word of caution here: please be careful of what you ask for. Harmful thoughts, deeds, and desires always have repercussions. We are all human and sometimes each of us may fall a little short. This is part of our learning and growth. To set our own boundaries of good and right is a good thing. To understand that our desires affect others is a good thing. To abuse our position in the world is a bad thing. Harm to others deliberately done is not acceptable to the Universe and should not be acceptable to you. Fairness and love is a good starting point in any situation. Selfishness, harshness and greed will not be seen well. You may have selfish and harmful desires in the short term as they may be part of your growth and growth to others. What feels bad to us we seldom engage in twice by choice. Basically what I am saying is this: we grow by experience and sometimes we do not get things correct. No one is perfect, we are perfecting ourselves daily. It also must be said that others feel our energy and thoughts by way of energy and if they feel bad, we will be seen in that light by those who engage with us.

Interacting with the Universe

We can ask the Universe for direct and positive input into our lives, health, and living situations. The Universe responds to those requests. We interact with the Universe every moment of the day and do so largely without conscious thought on the matter. If we give our interaction conscious thought and conscious interaction we have more of an influence upon outcomes.

We think things into being on either an energetic level or a physical level. For anything to come into being it must be preceded by a thought first. When I learnt how to design many decades ago one of the things that were drilled into me by the design process is the fact that change happens by my conscious thought. An idea comes into being by thought first then execution second. Along the way in the execution process the idea can be changed manipulated and honed. It is the same with the manipulation of energy. We have a thought or an idea and that is then communicated to the Universe and then the Universe responds by moving energy to bring it into being.

Whatever you want or wish for and even if it seems impossible; tell the Universe what it is. Ask the Universe to move situations in your direction to bring about the change that you desire. For your life to go in a certain direction you have to bring about the physical change or you have to ask the universe to do it for you. What the Universe will do will show you how to make the change by bringing people, ideas, or situations in your direction. Sometimes and more often than would be supposed it will just drop things in your lap. You can ask for many things from the Universe and material things are amongst those that can be asked for. They will not always be granted but if you don’t ask you probably will not get it unless you physically do it for yourself. The Universe makes the path to what you want and need easier and smoother for you.

Steering your life

You have a life that you can steer in this direction or that, according to your own desires. The Universe has a role in that life as it gave it to you. You are part of the Universe and it has a vested interest in you and your life. Day by day you live and grow and the Universe helps you to do that. It supplies the ingredients for life.

So what are your desires and wishes? Whatever they are as you think them whisper them to the universal forces and ask those forces for a direction toward them. The Universe points the way forward.

Changing Seasons, Changing Energy

Spring is the most wonderful time of year in the United Kingdom.  Each season has its beauty and its own energy, and for me no one season is better or worse than the others.  Each has its own unique magic that is a celebration of nature and the fluid forces that drive the cycles throughout the year.

Many ancient South_Africa002and traditional cultures lived their lives in harmony with the changing cycles.  Many of the festivals that they had were a celebration and honouring of the changes in energy from sleeping to waking, between winter and spring, and the natural power of full bloom of nature during high summer.  Nature has its own natural preparation for slumber as crops are harvested either by man or by the wild animals as they bury nuts and eat the berries and other fruits of the land, and finally the deep calm and sleep in winter.

We are approaching the stirring of nature’s energy from her sleep.  The snowdrops are flourishing and the bluebells are also beginning to break the surface of the forest floor.  It will be a while until we get the stunning carpets of blue in the forests, but when we do the world will be alive with the vibrant pulse of bird song, nest building and courtship rituals.

Nature’s balance is such that the opposite will be happening in the southern hemisphere.  Here it is autumn.  The birds will be migrating away, the chicks fledged, the leaves turning crispy reds and browns and the wild life preparing for sleep.  Then, it will be deep winter.  Scientists give complex explanations for the whys of nature, but really it just responds to the forces of nature, to remain in balance and harmony.  Living things feel the shifting energy and respond by their nature.  Trees shed their leaves, animals grow thicker coats and head for warmer climes and some hibernate.  Meanwhile, in the North, high summer is the plateau of energy.  The surges of spring and new growth are over, and the hum of nature’s power is strong and forceful.  All of nature celebrates.

Humanity enjoys the changing seasons just as nature does.  Even in the hectic flow of our daily lives and relentless schedules, we rest more in the winter, play harder in the summer and work more diligently in the spring when we create and in the autumn when we harvest.  With the seasons, man is in harmony with nature.  The subtle yet powerful forces of nature are irresistible to us.  For thousands of years, humanity has lived with nature’s ebb and flow, and although we do that less now, we still honour the changing seasons, not just in our religious holidays, but in our everyday changes in mood and behaviour.

These seasonal changes of energy are as much a part of the living energy of the universe as the energies we discuss in Nourish the Flame Within and the soon to be published Feel the Power.  The seasons are something we see and experience every year.  Some of us pay attention to them more than others, but we all feel their presence, their power and their unique gifts of joy, work, hardship and learning.

What do you love about the seasons?  How do you experience the changes in energy and how do they affect you.  Do you live in harmony with the seasons, or do you battle on relentlessly throughout the year.

I would love to hear from you and get some fascinating discussions going. Please feel free to leave your thoughts and comments below.  We are interested in genuine thoughts and discussion.

Doctors Help

Number 4 in Lynette’s health series

Diagnosis M.E.

When I was diagnosed with M.E. it was a welcome relief. To be honest, even though I had heard the term M.E., I did not know much about the illness. I had heard in the 1980’s that young successful people would go down with the illness due to overwork.

I had a bacterial infection that almost killed me as it had made me very unwell. The doctors could not sort the bacterial infection out easily and on closer inspection on my overall health they came to a diagnosis of M.E.  When I received the diagnosis of M.E., I had no understanding of what that illness would mean to my life in the coming years ahead.  I suffered a great deal under the umbrella of that horrible illness. There were days of pain, where every bone and muscle in my body hurt. My body just did not work anymore. Something had been switched off and I just could not switch it back on. My energy levels did not exist anymore and I felt constantly sick and ill. If I ate I felt ill and if I did not I felt just as unwell. However I felt constantly hungry and I just never knew what to do to make myself feel comfortable. This went on for many years day after day.

No hope

The trouble with M.E. in those days was the illness was not understood and there was no medical cure or way forward with the illness. It is much the same today also. The medical profession do not know what to do to treat the illness, or how to cure it.  Doctors know what a horrible illness this is but the public by and large did not then and still do not understand what this illness means to the sufferer, by and large.  Although it is getting a little better as many people now  know a friend acquaintance or family member who has suffered with M.E.  I am sad to say that not much has changed over the years and there is little hope for the sufferer.

No help available

The medical profession did not give me any help with my illness as there was none to be given. I am sure if there had been something available I may well have been offered it. Nothing was ever offered to me as a help to my situation.

I remember going to the doctors many times over the years feeling very weak, ill and helpless and knowing that my symptoms were a result of my illness and there would be nothing that they could offer by way of help.  I went to see them anyway. I am not sure why. Maybe it was because as a symptom of my M.E. I would get infections almost weekly and have to have antibiotics all of the time. I hated having to go to the doctor and I hated the antibiotics even more.  That is just ridiculous I know, but it was about the emotional struggle of the whole situation and not the doctor or the medicine that I really hated.

There are so many illnesses that cannot be helped or cured. We think often of doctors as magicians that will wave a magic wand and make us better.  Very often that is indeed the case, but not always so.  They do the best they can within their circumstances and that which is available to them. That does not always help when we feel very ill.

In the end I gave into my illness as that is all I could do at the time. However in time I decided  I just would not give a moment more of my time to this horrible illness and I looked for a solution. I found my solution. Mine was in rest and Reiki. It helped me get my health back and my life back on track.

Holistic Support

Holistic therapies are being taken much more seriously by the medical profession as they are coming to understand the emotional support as well as the therapeutic and healing help that they can offer the patient alongside their own conventional treatments.

A colleague of mine said recently, that a doctor had said, they did not refer their patients for holistic therapy because that made them feel as if they had failed. Well my response to that is this: If you have given your best to your patient how can you have failed them? Therapists are duty bound to refer their clients to their GP if it is a condition that is outside the scope of their therapy. They have to give treatments that are supportive of any treatment the G P is giving.

Holistic benefit

At the end of the day it is the patient/client’s health and well-being that is the most important factor and not the pride of the therapist or the doctor in question. I did not have any such complaint with my doctors. I did not feel they failed me at all. They did not offer me holistic therapy. I have no idea on their policy with such practice.

I have a client who I helped last year. She came to me with an illness her doctor could not help with and within six weeks I had improved her illness so much so that she hardly suffers with it at all now. She can get on with her life and has just a very slight relapse from time to time. In time I feel that may well go as well.

Holistic therapy can offer a great deal of benefit to many conditions and many people. My client said to me that when I was suggested to her, she wondered what I could do that the doctors had not done or could not do. Well holistic therapies approach health from a different stand point. We look at the energy condition of the body and not the body as a machine. It is not better or worse than what the medical profession does it is just a different way at coming at the problem, and sometimes that is what is needed in some conditions.

Reiki made me better

My doctors were very patient with my illness but could not help me. I thank them for their time and patience as that helped me emotionally, and that emotional help was something of a support to me. However, Reiki made me better.

Expectation

Let your open heart & spontaneity create the magic of the moment

Let your open heart & spontaneity create the magic of the moment

Steve Jobs, in his Stanford Commencement Speech, spoke about looking back at his life and joining the dots. Reflecting on his journey and how things had lead to one thing and then another.

Without any idea how impactful any one single event maybe it was only in the fullness of time that he realised how powerful, significant and influential those single moments or events would be.

Very often we plan events and have an expectation of how they will turn out or how we will experience them.  This expectation can limit our experience.

In one sense, if we have negative expectations we can perceive something that does in fact have the potential to be very positive as something negative.  For example, the nerves people feel before they speak in public can often be enough to stop people getting up in front of an audience and presenting their ideas.  The negative expectation stifles the spontaneous creation of experiences that might otherwise arise from that event.  To understand that this fear response is completely natural may allow that person to step out in spite of the fear, share their concept and enjoy the process of expressing their authenticity and the audience’s responses to it.

On the other hand, the expectation of a huge event can mean we miss the subtle nuances that make up the larger part of any situation.  To have a fixed idea in your mind of how something will be, means you may deny what it is becoming as it spontaneously evolves.  You may miss the magic as it unfolds and walk away feeling deflated from an event that was spectacular- just not in the sense that you had anticipated.

So how do we get the balance of creating an event that has the potential for an incredible experience, yet not get caught up in what it might be or what we want it to be?  Or even more rigidly, what it must be?

We have all been involved in something about which we have had no expectation.  Very often we have a wonderful time because we enjoy it in the moment as it unfolds and we have no pre- judgement to compare it with.

We can create an event with the knowledge that it will be great without knowing how it will be great.  The right people, the right ambience and an openness to succeed and the event create itself.  Is that not how the best events often unfold?  It requires planning and detail, but also surrenders to the dynamic flow of the moment.  So we plan and trust.  Plan with an open agenda and trust with an open heart.  And all the elements of life will flow together to create magic.

You will have witnessed it and contributed to the magic.   That will feed you and others, strengthening the bond between you and your loved ones and the bond between you and life itself, offering you strength, support and power in the instant of the moment.

Modern man loves his machines!

Modern Man

506976185Modern Man

Life is just great. What a great time to be living in. When I was a child I would think to myself that I was so pleased that I was born at the time that I was. We have cars and aeroplanes; we have electricity and machines to help us. We have plenty of food and nice clothes. We have hot running water and bathes. I thought that modern life in the 50’s Great Britain was just that, great. I was especially happy that I was not a child of the Victorian times who would have worked in a factory or in a field. I had the privilege of going to school and being educated and at the weekends spending time with my sisters and parents. Times change and expectations change.

Standards

By today’s standards we did not really have that much in the days of my youth. Even though aeroplanes existed I had never been on one. I did not know anyone personally that had in those days. My parents had never been on one and no one I knew had either. The first person that I personally knew that did go on one was a friend at school when we were about 12 and she went to Spain for a two week package tour.

If I think back to the time that I grew up in the 50’s and 60’s and how life for me existed then and how it is now, I can see how things have changed. I am sure my mother and grandmother would have said the same throughout their lives. My grandmother was born in 1902 I think and my mother was born in 1927. Both women saw a lot of economic and social change in their time. My grandmother would have seen the birth of the aeroplanes and electricity in the home, electrical appliances, radio, TV, telephones and much more. She saw two world wars and women’s role in society change from one of subservience to men to fighting for equality alongside the men at work and in the home.

Expectations

Life changes as does our expectations along with the passing of time. Modern man loves his machines. There are so many now that we all simply must have. The one I write this on is one of my favourites my little lap top that is so compact and light. I use it to keep in touch with the world. I communicate with friends across the globe.

I write blogs, books and emails on it and I just do not know where I would be without it. If it were taken away from me how would I survive? I recently purchased a tablet and in fact I have two. I have a kindle tablet and a cheap tablet also. I did not purchase an expensive one as I was not sure how the thing would fit into my life. To be honest it has not. My kindle I just use for reading and downloading books. As for the ability to use the net on it, I just don’t.  Am I missing something I wonder some times? I see other people glued to their smart phones and tablets and I just have no use for either. We are all different even in our use of technology. Technology is a good thing.  It brings us a great deal of ease.  I have to admit that sometimes I wonder at what cost and if we don’t pay too much for the price of a gadget.

Choice

We all work harder than we have ever done in modern times. Many of us push ourselves to limits that the mind and body were not designed for. Human beings are quite robust and we don’t break easily. I do see many miserable faces out there in life these days. Not everyone has a smile on their faces. Technology is meant to enhance life and make it better than it has ever been. There are so many people striving for a dream. Each person has their own dream. They each have their own idea of what makes the perfect life. Some dream of owning a Lamborghini and others dream of the latest most expensive handbag whilst others dream of the dream career or job or home. The perfect life dream is something different to each person. We are all individual.

Our life is full of choice and courses. We can choose one thing over the other. We all have collective choice and individual choice. Why do we the individual choose one thing over another? For the most part we choose what will benefit us the most. Benefits come in many shapes and sizes. There are as many benefits to be had as there are choices to make. The beautiful red shoes feed and satisfy the emotions whist the dream job sustains a family and their wellbeing.  Choice seems to bring its own problems. Modern man does have choice but at what cost to his life? If we visit any corner of the industrialised west an array of goods line shop shelves in every area of society. How much does each individual need to own to satisfy their desire for choice and abundance? Each person has a desire for abundance as abundance offers security of life in some respects.

Blight

Is modern man happy? Does our way of life sustain us? We are told that in the west we are overweight and eating poorly. We are told that we are blighted by heart disease and cancer. Why is this? We eat too much of the wrong things in the West and we sit too much and do not move our bodies enough. We drive our cars too much and do not use our legs enough. What is the answer? I just don’t know. Do you?

Mind Distraction

Distractions of the mind may come at a cost

Distractions of the mind may come at a cost

I was recently caught speeding. It was one of those hand-held cameras that zap you when you have no chance of noticing it is there. I have no excuse. I was not in a rush, I was not late, I was not frustrated, angry or upset. I was just driving too fast. But why?

Having just spent a week away I have had a chance to reflect. I think I have an answer. For a week I have had no deadlines, no demands, no Email, no Facebook or Twitter, no phone calls, no meetings and no sense of feeling obliged or obligated to do something. As such, I return home calmer, I speak and drive slower, I am more patient, relaxed and friendly and I make more time to speak to people and to listen. In a reversal of expectations, I am also more productive, better able to focus and concentrate and as anticipated, less pressured.

On a day-to-day basis, I do not think I live a particularly stressful life style. I do jobs that I love and I have a lot of time and space to call my own to do as I please. Yet, there is a pressure that drives me to do more, start work earlier and finish later, take on another project, respond to Emails as I am having a telephone conversation or a conference call and rush from appointment to appointment at break neck speed. I think this pressure is a social phenomenon. Society tells us through advertising and social media to be busier, wealthier, more popular and more successful, to holiday more, party more, work more, be prettier and more handsome, sexier, fitter, stronger the list is almost endless. We feel that pressure and feel the urge to step it up another notch again and again and again. When is enough, enough?

I guess, if we are driven by the pressures laid down by society, enough is never enough. But if we can think seriously about what we want as much as about what we don’t want, then we are placing a pressure upon ourselves that is self motivated and internally driven. We are not isolated from society, nor do I think we should be. Through determining a self directed sense of what is important in life, we are better equipped to decide what goals, hopes and dreams can make us grow in a positive direction and those that do not. Society offers a spectrum of opportunities, some that may be to our detriment and others that may be to our benefit.

I do not blame society for my incident of driving too fast. It is my fault and it is up to me to moderate my behavior in all situations. My question is, does rushing and striving for more and more help us grow in a positive direction, or distract us from what it truly important? Could we rush less and reflect more and so become more thoughtful and considerate members of society and therefore become a more responsible and caring society as a whole?

Life is so busy and there are so many distractions that can pull us off the path that we have set for ourselves to achieve personal success and fulfillment. Perhaps we succumb to these distractions at a cost may be at the cost of our happiness or our health, but perhaps at a cost to the health and happiness of others. In my case, I may have hit someone with my car. The policeman who processed my paperwork on the side of the road let me go with a final sobering thought at the speed I was traveling only one in ten people survive being hit by a car. And all because I had got used to trying to do more to make myself feel like my life was more fulfilled and meaningful!

My Illness had Its Roots In The Past

303aLynette’s Illness series Part 2

Often, I’m reminded that life is a funny old thing. It has the capacity to bring us a variety of different experiences – some positive, some negative and some a curious mixture of both. Experience is a good thing but it’s important to understand how the past can impact the present and what you can do about it.

On  Holiday Pain and Strain

At this moment, I am sitting in Madera outside the Café do Teatro enjoying the sun, the music and people around me. My husband is sipping beer and generally enjoying life. It has been an up and down sort of day. I awoke this morning with physical pain having strained my back a few days ago taking a sled ride down a mountain. It was good fun albeit a bit scary in places, but as we turned this way and that I felt my tummy muscles strain. It only took me bending over the bath to make the problem a lot worse.

Terrible Sun Burn

My husband is suffering from severe (ish) sunburn to his face’s face.  All his own fault, in fact. He had refused to wear sun block or a hat, insisting  he was going to be brown for his return to work.  I warned him this was plain insanity, and now he is in pain and as red as a lobster. My husband’s sun burn was the result of macho stupidity, but to be sure we both had a hand in our own pain.

Just as my husband’s terrible sunburn was brought about by his own actions, I would say the same about my M. E. (Myalgic Encephalomyelitis). At an earlier stage in my life, I was merely reacting to daily opportunities and challenges, without understanding that I was sowing the seeds of my poor health.

Doctors Don’t Know

Doctors don’t know what causes M.E. – some think it has something to do with viral infection. I did have a viral infection before my M.E. but more importantly, I think I ran myself down. I was depleted and low in energy. I worked too hard and did not sleep correctly. I was terribly stressed took things to heart, allowing it to affect my health and wellbeing.

Too Emotional

We all feel emotions acutely from time to time and that is normal. It’s not that I felt emotions acutely that caused my pain and illness, it’s is that I allowed trauma and unhappiness, though my ignorance of the situation, to stay and build within my body.

This is what I believed caused me to become ill with my viral infection.  I don’t know  whether the viral infection had anything to do with my M.E. and neither do the doctors, but being low and depleted of energy and vitality certainly did.  So my illness was a result of what I did. It was to do with my interaction with life.

Difficult Moments

Life has its difficult moments for us all. It is in those difficult times that we may gain some trauma to our person. Of course, traumatic circumstances should be avoided altogether, if that is not possible, the trauma that is gained through these difficult times needs to be dealt with and removed.

I did not deal with mine. I was like I was like so many people who just do not understand the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual severity of not dealing with the trauma that life’s stresses bring.

There’s Hope.

There is hope and there is recovery from trauma. The person needs to know what help they need and the correct method of rectification. For me, this came in the form of Reiki. It was a long road to recovery and not least because most people with M.E. do not make a full recovery at all. Some even die from the illness, or commit suicide. It is a hard life living with M.E. and I have to say I had my moments of wanting to end it all. Trouble was I was too weak, ill, and foggy brained to think about it seriously.

Recovery

My recovery started with acupuncture and ended with Reiki.  Reiki is the therapy that made the most difference to my health and made me well. Today I am a Reiki master and try to help others by teaching Reiki and giving Reiki treatments.  Reiki is a Japanese energy healing therapy and works by transference of universal energy (subtle energy).  There is recovery from the illness, I know because I made that recovery.

If you have M.E. and would like to experience Reiki and take part in an informal study, please contact Lynette by emailing her at, lynette@thelivingenergy.co.uk.

Trust- A Force of Nature

If you take the time and make the effort to build trust people will do extraordinary things with you

If you take the time and make the effort to build trust people will do extraordinary things with you

Trust is a force of Nature

Trust is hard won. We are born into trust for it is the natural way. Nature is built on connectivity, interaction and synchronicity.  Birds’ eggs hatch just as the insects they eat begin to multiply, the squirrels bury their nuts as the autumn nights draw in and winter approaches and the sea’s tides are influenced by the phases of the moon.  Nature is built on trust.  The new born knows it must suckle, the fledgling birds knows it can fly just as the foal understands it must walk.  Everything comes in its own time and eventually fades away.

In her book “Mutant Message Down Under” Marlo Morgan describes a scenario when she must lead the Aborigine tribe in the Outback wilderness to food. Days go by without food and water and fear and terror mount in her as she contemplates her death and the death of the tribe. The Aborigine tribe members are unmoved. In time a meal appears in the wilderness and her relief is extreme. She discusses her anxiety with the tribe later on and they explain that they never lost their trust in nature- that she would raise to the task and provide or they would die. It is that simple!

Losing Trust and Gaining Wisdom

Trust is something easily lost. We trust implicitly as youngsters because we know no better. We are endowed with trust by Nature herself.  Why would we not trust?  It is against the natural flow of survival. Without trust we are alone and without friends or support.  As helpless youngsters we have no choice but to trust. It is our birth right. But it is easily abused, knowingly and unknowingly. This creates distrust and in that there is a loss of innocence, a barrier to open loving living.

As life experience shapes our understanding of the world we must lose our naivety without becoming cynical. We must understand that people are not always as they seem. People can hide their insecurity, fear, aggression and malicious intent towards us . If we do not realise this we become stung by the sharp stab of trust abused and the humiliation of being made to feel stupid or falsely taken in.

If we are to be open we must have trust. If we are to communicate and live without barriers to the world, there has to be an implicit trust in the world and the people in it. If all we have known is a harsh and unloving world it is hard to trust it.

With every personal disappointment in others we become more insular. Perhaps we need to look elsewhere for trust?

Where can Trust be Found?

Nature can be trusted upon. Every breath you take is a deepening of the trust between you and nature itself. You serve and support each other. You are there for each other.  Aren’t all of nature’s bounty free gifts?  Air is a free gift, expected on faith that it will be there and that you have the means to take it. We take it for granted, because Nature has always provided.  But should we take that trust for granted?

Many years ago I learned to SCUBA dive.  One of the important tasks that I had to learn was to share my breathing equipment with my diving buddy.  I had to learn various other important tasks as well to prepare me for a time when I may lose air for some reason below the surface of the water.

Once as I was performing these tasks, my diving instructor turned off my air supply!  The feeling of trying to draw air into my lungs when there was no air to breathe was terrifying.  I panicked and tried to race for the surface, the great sin in SCUBA diving for safety reasons.  My instructor coached me through the proper procedure and in time I breathed again, but for those few seconds the beauty of breath and the implicit trust I had in nature for providing my next breath was forcibly driven home to me.

On occasions I breathe deep, long and low and enjoy the calmness my body experiences as I feel the air rush into my lungs and nourish my body.

By being consciously aware of the air around us and inside of us and knowing that it is freely available to us given by nature itself, we can build trust in nature.  Perhaps we need to be more mindful of the things that are offered naturally without price.  They are given as part of the natural order of the world and the universe.

Our pets bring us pleasure and comfort. They trust in our kindness.  They respond to it.  There is a natural order in this. We trust them in turn. They are there when we feel sad.  They snuggle to comfort us, and are there to greet us constantly when we leave and return.

The Beauty of Trust

What can we humans learn about trust from nature and animals? Always be there. Be present. Be kind and generous.  Be compassionate and accepting. Realise our responsibility to others and live up to it. Be loyal.  Be trusting of the natural order.

Trust in people is built over time. It is earned.  People make mistakes and so it does not always follow that their mistakes were deliberately done. We must ask ourselves “Has it been done in error or with malicious intent?”  To interact with people at all let alone well we must trust them and be trust worthy ourselves.

To do great things with people we must trust and be trust worthy. If you take the time and make the effort to build trust people will do extraordinary things with you.

Some will be too fearful. That is fine. Some may be so fearful and distrusting that they abuse your trust and hurt you. Know that the fault lies with them, not you! Learn to tell the difference and with growing wisdom discern the relationships that diminish you and those that empower you.

Nature waits patiently.  It is always there, waiting for each of us to trust and begin the process of embracing it.  In return for our trust in it, it embraces us more deeply, sharing with us more of its wonder and secrets.

Nature can only do so much and we must be prepared to do our bit. Often we don’t take chances as we worry about our ability to trust the situation or the person.  Often it is a question of control or past pain.  We all have a need to protect ourselves from repeating mistakes in relationships and situations. We do not want to be hurt. Yet, to surrender to trust we must be prepared to take the chance and understand that there is the possibility of being hurt.  It is a tricky situation.

Building a Bridge of Trust

So how do we cross this impasse? How do we build trust, trust the right people and embrace that which is good? It takes time. It takes care and patience. Are you worthy of trust? Is the one in whom you place your trust worthy of it?  We can only discover this by taking small steps, in the full knowledge that we are taking a risk.  We build trust over time, making informed choices that will lead to greater openness as trust is upheld from both ends of the bridge.

This will lead to a strong connection and bond growing between you and others that will nurture your faith in trust and create a beautiful life full of millions of small moments- the smiles, the laughs, the touches, the kindnesses- that warm the soul and make life special.

Biblical Rain and Misery

Rain and Floods

The ancient peoples of the earth understood and thing or two about life. They understood that they were a part of a greater whole. Recently in Britain we have had nothing but rain. Of course Britain is known for its rain. It has always been a standing joke both inside and outside of Britain. “The Rain”.

The message has always been if you are come to Britain bring your umbrella with you. In fact I stayed in a hotel once in Wales that gave complementary umbrellas to the guests as a way of enticing them into the hotel on weekend packages. Well that free umbrella has long gone but it was useful along the way.

Misery
The misery that floods incur is not to be underestimated. I live about 12ft or so from the edge of a river. I could not be much nearer. When my river rose during the recent rain we stepped outside one morning to find water over spilling onto the bank and heading in our direction. My neighbours and I were not happy. Luckily for us all it did not do more than that. All of the housed were safe. However, not so for so many people in Britain as devastation has travelled across the United Kingdom and the West Country has been very badly affected indeed.
Some people in Britain have been hit by flooding year after year in recent times. I watched people on the news give their thoughts and feelings to the interviewers about their plight with the rain, floods and devastation that has gripped their lives. It has been called floods of Biblical proportions. I can hear the wind picking up and threatening more rain as I write this.

Rain of Biblical Proportions and God’s Displeasure
Religious books are full of stories that tell us what happens to insignificant man should he step out of line and incur god’s displeasure, or even just the earth’s. Have we brought this in some way on our own shoulders? I have watched the weather patterns seemingly change over the years. Now I am no expert on these thing and the experts themselves seem not to be entirely in agreement. Some say global warming and some say not.

The Debate Goes on
The debate goes on with not real conclusion amongst any of us. May be we all have too much of a vested interest in keeping things as they are so we ignore the signs of erosion of the earth’s balance. We all talk in terms of our newest gadget or fashion item or what we simply must own next. At what cost to us all perhaps? We also talk about the endangered species of the earth due to our own expansion and greed. Maybe what we should all be worrying about is another species. Not the tiger or the elephant, although I fully support them both and their miserable plight. Maybe there is a more important cause to worry about, an animal that needs our help more. Ourselves! Perhaps we too are an endangered species. Not by numbers but by our own stupidity and actions.

Life Engagement

Life Engagement, Personal Intention, and Passion are all important. I see people today engaging in life through their mobile phones and their tablets. In a coffee shop the other day there were four separate couples with their heads in their phones and they never once spoke to their partners. I understand it is a generational thing, but I do hope that they engage with life and feel the excitement and thrill of living more fully, so that they are drawn into the joy of being alive. We deepen relationships with others through interaction. We can communicate at a distance but the more we focus on a task or a person the more fully we will connect.

Mechanical force
I understand that life is about engagement and connection. Business meetings, public speaking, dates, performing arts and sports are most successful when there is engagement, the feeling of presence and charisma that is undeniable and powerful. I teach and practise martial arts. When you perform a block or punch you may think that you are blocking or punching with your hand or your arm. This only diminishes your power and potential. In fact you are blocking and punching with so much more- your whole body is connected to that arm, and with good technique you can amplify the mechanical force of that movement. Good stance and posture, relaxation of the body, fluid motion, accuracy, timing and rhythm all contribute to the power of the movement.

Intention
There is more. There is intention behind that block or punch, the coherence of the mind and body working together to create a powerful movement. There is commitment. In “Feel the Fear and do it Anyway” Susan Jeffers describes an exercise to demonstrate the influence of thoughts on the body. Thinking in a positive mind frame palpably makes the body stronger than a negative mind frame, but she states that this affect is most profound the more the participant commits and feels what they are saying. I have tried this many times, and people are always surprised at the power their thoughts have on their physical being. A block or a punch will be far more powerful when there is commitment and focus on doing the technique. Focussing on fear weakens the body. In martial arts you practice technique to perfect union of mind, body and spirit in a positive and empowered state of being.

Effortless engagement with life
There is also passion that comes from the freedom of doing something effortlessly that is well practised and the subconscious trust and belief that the block or punch will work to defend the body. All these energies coalescing and focussing on the point of the punch or the block mean that you are punching and blocking with your entire being, not just with your arm. To do something with your whole being is to be fully connected and engaged with life. This is an expansive, liberating experience leading to freedom of expression and one’s uniqueness.

Passion
I passionately believe that martial arts are a mirror of life. When you look deeply enough you can take the lessons out of the training hall and apply them to life. And so it is with this…… it is a life- time’s practice to engage and remain engaged with life. To be truly present is to experience the moment entirely, to listen fully, to see clearly and to feel deeply.
In the movie Avatar there is a greeting the Na’ vi people make that I love. They say “I see you”, implying that there is more about you than the physical form I am looking at. There is something deeper.
We can all glimpse the deeper inner beauty of others and when that is sensed there is a realisation of how exciting that inner beauty can be.
Deep engagement with life and others will “Nourish the Flame Within”. When you feel the power of your connection with life it truly nourishes and sustains you. It amplifies passion of all sorts, and that is something worth living for!
