Spiritual Freedom

Eventually, like the electron, your energy reaches such a level that you are able to break free of the confines of your human embodied experience

Eventually, like the electron, your energy reaches such a level that you are able to break free of the confines of your human embodied experience

Many spiritual practices speak of the idea that what you give out you will receive. Another way of saying it might be energy flows in cycles. Have you experienced that abundance leads to abundance?  Love works this way.  The more loving you are, the more love you receive.  Your giving is loving and so people cannot help but be loving in return.  It does not always work out that way.  Sometimes your generosity is occasionally met with dishonesty, greed and selfishness.  That is how it can be when people have free choice.

The Evidence of Science

By way of supporting evidence, this state of seeking balance and equilibrium is seen throughout nature, even at the atomic level. The subtle energy of which we speak in our blogs and books is electromagnetic energy, in part created by the electrons that exist in all atoms in the universe.  Electrons occupy shells in an atom.  There are many shells and the electrons in a specific shell have a particular energy level.  The shell closest to the centre of the atom, the nucleus, has the lowest energy level of all and the shell furthest from the centre is at the highest energy.  Any higher than that, and the electron escapes from the atom and is free.  For electrons to move from shell to shell requires an input of energy or a release of energy.  An input energises an electron and gives it more energy, allowing it to move into shells further from the centre.  A release of energy means the electron loses energy and it moves to a less energized shell.

This process of giving and taking energy is happening all the time, recycling energy throughout the universe. The output of energy leaves things open for an input of energy.  In nature, there is no lack, there is no thought of lack.  The universe is such that there is no lack.  Everything is as it should be, all in balance and working around a balanced centre and equilibrium point.   An atom does not hold on to energy, neither does an electron in the atom.  To get more energy, it has to give it away, so that the energy keeps flowing and recycling.  Atoms and electrons draw their energy from the space around them and work with whatever is available.  This is why the universe is so dynamic and creative.  Atoms and electrons are capable of great potential.  It is their environment that determines how fully they are able to express that potential.

You Cycle Energy with the Environment

This model is true for all things in the universe. We humans are no different.  You have the choice to place your self in whatever environment you choose.  You have the ability to decide what mind- set you have in any given moment.  You have the power to use intention and use your thought to create your reality.

You may have the sense that you need to hold on to things, to horde so that you can accumulate. However, spiritual teachings say that you want to set things free, have an abundance mind- set, which allows you to act from a place of knowing that you already have all that you need.  This opens the channels to greater abundance.  To give away, you have to open the gateway, and in passing things out through the gateway, you leave the gateway open and create the space for more to come in.  This seems counter intuitive and yet experience will tell you otherwise.  Generosity of time, money and my knowledge or experience has always led to more coming back to me in so many different forms.  Energy manifests in many ways and so abundance expresses itself in many forms.

Growing Energy, Deepening Enlightenment

As you grow in energy, you vibrate at a different frequency. You become spiritually more enlightened, in stages, just like the electron passing through the shells of the atom.  The more energized you become, the more things you are capable of doing that you couldn’t do before.  The more energized you become, the more you see, experience and feel.  The key is to keep giving your energy away so that you are open to be filled again and more fully than before.  As you give, you expand your capacity to accept more.  It is the generosity of spirit that leaves space for more energy to replace it as the energy recycles again and again and again.  Holding on to things only guarantees the slow leaking and stagnating of energy that leaves you depleted, tired and afraid.  Instead, place your self in environments that energise you, allow you to give your energy away freely so that you can give it away without fear, knowing it will be replenished a thousand fold.  Surround your self with friends, places, books, courses, family, animals, activities and entertainment that energise you and feed your energy levels.  In time, you will realise that this is the natural state for all and all moments will feed you and contribute to your growth and development.

A word of warning. Beware of those that leech your energy that leave you drained and weak.  Be mindful of situations that leave you disempowered.  To give your energy away then is to be prey to vampires.  Steer clear of them as best you can and learn to know what these people and places feel like so that you avoid them as much as possible.

Free from Confinement

Eventually, like the electron, your energy is at such a level that you are able to break free of the confines of your human embodied experience. This might happen in meditation or when you are doing movement, music or singing in a ritualized way.  It happens to you every night when you sleep and you sail away in dreams.  What I am suggesting is a purposeful journey towards greater enlightenment.  In other words, keep recharging the body with the energy of the universe that is so abundant and that can make you fully alive and connected to all things.  When you break free you realise that you are part of the whole, free of the false perception of separation and fully cognisant of the interconnection amongst everything, that leaves you fully and freely loving, compassionate, generous and whole.  Here you are beyond fear.  Pain is an accepted part of life as is joy, able to accept both with equal grace.

Energy in the Spotlight

Connection puts us all in the Spotlight

Connection puts us all in the Spotlight

Connection is one of the keys to spirituality. You cannot truly connect unless you open your heart and mind to another- we call it empathy. It is about seeing some one where they really are, how they are truly being in that moment and feeling that in our self- the pain, love, sorrow and joy.

This connection breeds compassion, an understanding that allows healing and forgiving. You practise this on one another and you can practise it on your self.

Everything is a reflection. Seeing pain in others when you are connected brings about pain in your self. Witnessing joy in others when you are connected ignites joy within you. I think we should be prepared to go either route for life is full of both.

To become aware of this connection makes you think twice before you act. It has that affect on me- I may do it anyway, and then it is a more thoughtful, mindful act. It may cause pain and then my apology is more heart felt and genuine because I felt it more deeply.

Seeing things as energy breaks down the imaginary boundaries between them. Without boundaries we are naked, raw and vulnerable. Without boundaries we are reflections of each other in real time- we bleed together, cry together, laugh together and dance together. This is humanity living together in the great River of Life.

When I was a child, I went on a school trip into London. On the underground I saw a tramp on a platform and in my naivety I stood staring at him. A business man saw me do it and said to me “we did that to him”. I felt terrible, guilty and sad. To this day I do not know what he truly meant by that. Perhaps now I have an answer- that without connection, how can we ever hope to help our self and each other and make the world a better place? And, in the tradition of all self growth, the answer becomes another question.

I saw Spotlight recently, a movie about the tale of The Boston Globe’s exposure of child abuse in the church in the late twentieth century. So sad to think these men of power did so much harm. Men who are supposed to be connected to God and doing God’s work, just as Islamic suicide bombers claim to be connected to God and doing God’s work. In my opinion this is the opposite of connection for no connected human being could do this. Why? Because they would feel the pain they cause. The reflected mirror would seer their eyes, burn their hearts and their ears would shatter at the sounds of the screams of pain, guilt and anger. No, these are empassioned people on a crusade not thinking about how their actions are hurting themselves and the world.

And so I ask you not to put your hearts and souls into the hands of people you presume and expect to have your best interests at heart. Instead, be discerning, let your connection and intuition lead you to make insightful decisions regarding your spiritual health and well- being.

Union

Spiritually, we are meant to be unified, we are meant to think and act with the whole in mind.

Spiritually, we are meant to be unified, we are meant to think and act with the whole in mind.

I wrote this minutes after finding out the result of the UK Referendum to remain in the European Union. The decision to leave has had wide- spread ramifications for Great Britain and the world already.  These outcomes will continue to unfold for months and years ahead, and I trust that the politicians, economists, financial houses, businesses and individuals will make the best of it, in that we will find a way forward that will be to the benefit of all sides.

I voted to remain. It was a spiritual decision.  Spiritually, we are meant to be unified, we are meant to think and act with the whole in mind.  Every spiritual path, be it within religion or not, teaches and demonstrates that we are part of an indivisible whole.  Science, with it’s theory of Big Bang, acknowledges that the entire universe came from a single point in space and time and that nothing new has been created since- the energy is just recycling.  This is the rhythm and cycle of existence.

In the UK, it seems that there is some concern with the challenges that come with European unification. Of course it is challenging to live in harmony with other people and nations that think differently, want different things and act in different ways.  This is part of the struggle of being human, to find a way to hear all that must be heard and respond in a way that all peoples feel respected, cherished and honoured.

While people only think short term and do not take the larger view, separation will always appear like the better option. It comes with its own challenges.  Separation and Union both bring their own difficulties.  Separation weakens the whole.  It is seeded in fear and I think we need to be more courageous than that, globally, nationally, regionally and individually.  Union requires a totally different mind- set.  To care for our brothers and sisters, to unite the energy that feeds and sustains us.  Once people feel cared for and heard, healed and empowered, that mind- set will have already taken a huge shift.  Until then, as individuals, we must do what we can to unify our lives, so that we can demonstrate the power of living in love.  This is the message of every spiritual leader: Jesus, Buddha, Muhammad, Gandhi, Martin Luther King and Ang Sang Su Shi.

I hope that whatever the UK and the world do from this point on, we will find a way to create greater union across all nations. I do not want to sound like some naïve new- ager.  I am not one, for I know that the road ahead will be challenging, not because it has to be, but because to change hearts and minds is hard when they are driven by fear and a sense of lack.  It will take a lot of internal work, that many of us are reluctant to do at the best of times, to shift towards love and abundance.  When we do, and the tide is changing in spite of what this vote may or may not imply, the healing and Union will pick up pace.

The Soul and the Spirit

496038383:a spiritual journey

I read something said about Reiki recently. I read, “Reiki is said to be a spiritual practice. However it is more than that”.

That statement implies the description of “spiritual practice” does not express what Reiki is. It implies the idea of being a spiritual practice is in some way insignificant to other considerations of what that person thinks Reiki is. What they are basically saying I think, is that if we describe Reiki as a spiritual practice it does not tell us the true worth and ability of it.

Being a spiritual practice, is the very highest of what Reiki is. It does not make Reiki less in any way. We have to take a look at the word “Spiritual” and determine what that is. Recently someone said to me that they consider themselves to be Spiritual and not religious and I asked them, what is the difference? The person could not give me an answer because they had not thought about it thoroughly enough. It was a clever and fashionable statement but did not have substance for that person. They did not have an answer to my question.

To consider the word spiritual we perhaps to look at the word religious also and look at them side by side.

Let’s start with the word religion. I feel that many people today have a negative view of religion and use the idea of spirituality in its place so as not to be associated with any particular religion but showing some reverence to something greater. Maybe religious history is partly to blame. This negative view maybe in part due to all of that fighting back stabbing, killing, abuse and downright dishonestly that many religions have engaged in over time, that have caused so many of us to just not wish to even hear the word religion spoken. It could be said that which is meant to nurture the human soul and spirit have thrown dirty water on the task. So it is not surprising that many are left feeling cold at the very thought of the word religion. Religions main task is to throw light on the path to God; instead it too can be bogged down with earthly experience. Difficult indeed to heave one foot on the earth and on in heaven.

Now what do we mean by spiritual? To consider the word spiritual we first have to understand the word “Sprit.”  What is spirit? Often the word soul and spirit are used interchangeably to mean the same thing. They do not mean the same thing. Many people if not most people think of their body as who they are. “I am my body.” “My body must be beautiful because if my body is perfect and beautiful people will perceive a beautiful me.” Are we a sum total of our body or are we more than our body? The body becomes a mess in time because it ages, and so are we now not beautiful because our body may not be so?

To find the real beauty of a person you must look deeper. It is located inside of the person that is where the beauty lay. The beauty lay in their thoughts, ideas, actions, and personality. Those things allow the person to have interaction with the world on a deeper level. What are we to call those bits of the person as a collective expression? Are those things part of the mind or are they more than just mental thinking capacity of the person? The mind is a tool by which we make sense of information on an intellectual level. We analyse the world and life with the mind. We say we think thoughts and they happen in the brain which is the mind. The soul is not the mind it does not analyse at all it just is. We will come back to all of these words and ideas latter. So that leaves the word sprit and if spirit is not the soul what is it?

Let’s recap.

We have so far spoken about spiritual practice, we started with that and also religion and the differences in those two things. We have also spoken about the difference in the soul and the spirit. We further touched on the body and what is that and our ideas of the body and who we are. What a muddled mine field it all is. Please let me give you my take on this it may help you to make some sense of it all.

The mindThinkstockPhotos-511136335

That defiantly is where the analytical processes of the person take place. We all think our thoughts in the brain. All information about our external life will be filtered by this part of us through the  senses. We make sense of what is around us via the senses and the brain. We analyse that information with the brain and then that information is stored somewhere in us. We think about what is coming at us via life and our senses and then store that information. We do not think consciously about every bit of information that comes at us form moment to moment as there is just too much of it for the brain to cope with. It thinks about some of it and analyses that which is new or different or previously unknown and unfamiliar. A lot of information that comes in our direction does not need the brain to analyse it as it is very familiar and  not consequential or threatening or different. It has been already stored and understood.

The Physical body

This needs little explanation, however it is not who we are. The body is not the person. ThinkstockPhotos-461277209The body houses the person and the person lays somewhere inside the body. I am not my body, but my body is the home that I inhabit. It allows me to move and live within the human experience on the earth. It is flesh and bone and it is easily damaged if I am not careful with it. I can work on my body to enhance its look and health. I need my body to live the human experience on the earth.

The soul

This part of the person is the person. The soul is who I am. I am my soul. The soul is my personality, it is my essence. I know that some of the person’s personality is governed by part of the brain. However the person is more than their brain functioning. They feel and when they feel they do not do so with their brain. It is at another part of their body that they go to for their feelings. It will be with their gut and the heart that they feel. Feelings painful and joyful go to these two places. This is where the person or the soul resides. The person resides in the gut mostly and in the heart also. The soul is the part of you that changes and develops over time. You are not the same person that you were ten years ago or even five years ago. In that time span you have had many experiences and those experiences good or bad happy or sad difficult or easy have moulded you into the human being you are today. It has given you your take on life. It has shaped your understanding of the world and what it can be to you and others. I am a therapist and very often it is this part of a person that is in the most distress when they come to me for help. I have to repair their soul, before the body will heal. Very often it is a case of sort the soul out and the body will sort itself out. This part of the person connects to all life on all levels and so it gets the biggest distress sometimes as it negotiates life.

The spirit

Now what is the spirit? If the brain governs the analytical process of the person and the soul is the person, what is the spirit?

The spirit does not do the same as the soul. It does not feel at all. It is dispassionate. The spirit of the person stands back and watches. The spirit part of the person is the observer. What does it observe? It observes you the person. It observes how you negotiate life. It takes note of everything and records everything about you and what you do. It is like a note book or a USB stick recording as you go. There is nothing that you ever do that you truly forget. It is all housed somewhere and this is where it is housed. We think that our memories come from our brain. In part they may, however it is in the spirit that everything about  you is stored. The spirit is like a filling cabinet and the brain retrieves the files from the cabinet. The spirit half of the soul records. The soul and the spirit of the person sit side by side within the person.

The spirit of the person is the part of the person that is pure energy. It is the part of your being that comes directly from the source of life itself. It is the part of you that on your demise will go back to the source of life. The spirit does not interact with life as the soul does. The soul is the messy part of you feeling everything and reacting to it all. The spirit just takes note of how the soul handles life. It is dispassionate.

These two jobs need to be separated. The soul very often is a mess feeling and reacting to everything that comes its way. There needs to be a part of you that stands back and is dispassionate to keep record of how you got in the mess in the first place. Your history needs to be housed somewhere. It is in the spirt that your history is housed. When you are done with life on the earth and the human experience your spirit hands over the spirit USB stick, if you will, to the source of life and your whole life is recorded in the universe for the source of life to use as information on life. Nothing is lost from the universe life takes note of everything and it is continually adapting to information. We know that life changes from generation to generation and there is development of all species that takes place within life. The universe keeps all information safe and uses it for the development of the universe and life. The spirit goes back to the universe or God. The spirit goes back to the source of all life and hands over its information to the source of life.

Oneness

ThinkstockPhotos-177794827In every mystical or religious path we are told we need to recognise our oneness with God. What is that for heaven’s sake? Oneness with God! Many people don’t recognise God and so go into great debate about that. God is a word used to describe the source of all life. God is all powerful and the ultimate force of nature. It is the thing that brought all life and the universe into being. It is the universe. That force is given a human face by Christianity and in other religious paths it is given other faces, as an energy force, gods, or a god of some kind. All paths put that force above everything else and say all sprang from that force.

Now there is a clue in those words “All sprang form that great force”.

So if all sprang from this great force which some call God, that means you and I did and all things did. Mystical and religious paths say all is one and has oneness. All come from one to make many.

We can use the word “spirit” to mean essence of a thing. We are all from the main essence. We could say that the spirit and the main essence being one and the same. So the spirit can be said to be that bit of you and me and all things that came from the great source of life. It is the “God spark”. It is the bit of you and me and all things that come from the main ingredient of life. We can think of God in many ways but its essence is the source of all things. So now we can see the difference between the words soul and spirit. This is why these four words, the mind, the body, the soul and the spirit  are so important to us. They describe very different aspects of the human living condition that are of great importance to the human living experience.

Spirituality

So now what of spirituality and a spiritual path? Well spirituality is the path that nourishes both the soul and the spirit. How can we do that? How is that done if it is done at all? If it is done will be dependent on what the person has decided for themselves. Do I ignore the whole idea of the spiritual and just exist?

Do I live the earthly life to the full and experience all that has to offer to the exclusion of nurturing the spirit? In that experience I feed the soul aheavy diet.dv787002 I may well enjoy my self for many years but at the end of it some thing may well suffer.

Do I balance my experience by nurturing both soul and spirit? Walk a religious path alongside the earthly experience. So I can have an affair or two, drink loads of alcohol, take substances that are not good for me perhaps, travel the world and have a great time, then think about the spirit from time to time as is needed. I might think about it at my religious holidays and festivals, and at whatever ways and times that connects me to the “God source.”

Do I immerse myself in the spiritual path and just live my life exclusively nurturing my God spark, feeding the spirit with the best that living can give it? Do I then pass those learnings onto others and illuminate their path to the best spiritual nurturing they can have?

Do I sit back and analyse it all using my brain to assess the validity or futility of all of these paths?

As you can see there are many paths and each path has its own merit. No path is better or worse than the other. Each path has its merits as each path will bring something positive to the person. Each path brings experience through the living experience to the person. All paths are a road back home to the ultimate force. We all return to dust or at least our body does and our soul and spirit go home. The ultimate power of the universe, that which some call God wants back that which it gave us, that piece of itself called the spirit. A spiritual path is one that nurtures that part of us. God is the ultimate energy force that houses the best in us or the light side of us. Not the dark side of the human nature. If we follow a spiritual path we wish to enhance the best side of us. That bit that is nearest to the universal perfection that we have.

Life itself is the ultimate spiritual journey. Life takes us from the universal source of life and then sends us back to it. We are on a journey of return from the moment we are born. We are thrust into life and we are given people who are our parents and wider family and we accept that situation and get on with what comes our way from that experience. We then are trust even more into the living experience and made to learn many things and are schooled by our social systems in one way or another. We start our development of the soul from the moment we are born. The situation to which we are born into starts that development for us. We are on our spiritual journey. We are working our way back home already. To be on spiritual journey you do not have to be religious or non-religious you just have to be living. Living is the ultimate spiritual journey. It is the return home for all of us with a lot of hassles and joys thrown in to make it interesting and stretching.

A spiritual journey is not about being good or bad. It is not about being the light or dark it is about a return home. How we choose to return home and with what kind of information on our spirit USB stick is our choice. The source of life gets to look it over and it will be happy or sad at the information stored on that spirt USB. The source of life needs you to experience life and no two lives are ever the same. We are all different people having our own personal human experience. There are rules to life, for life would be chaos without rules, and so the source gives some rules for us to follow. However, if we choose to follow those rules or not is up to us as above all we must experience. At the end of life we get to make our case for the life we lived. We are all on a journey of the spirt no matter what. The path we take and if we take a spiritual path on that journey is up to us. Free will and choice is at the heart of the universal desire for you. You get to choose many things each and every day.

Religion

Religion sheds light on the way back home. It highlights the rules to that return, or at least that is what it is supposed to do. It is there to remind us that there is a home and we are not here forever just a time and then we return home. The universe is home and the universe is what we return to. All religions give their personal explanation on how the universe is organised. It does not matter what religion you choose or if you choose none at all. You will return home one day and you will have lived a life long or short good or bad. You will return home with experience and development of your soul.

Religion or no religion a spiritual path or not is up to you and always should be your choice. So what bit of you do you most wish to nourish? Is it the soul, the spirit, the mind, or the body? We all get to choose our focus.

Reiki

Reiki treatmentNow let us finally go back to the very beginning of this blog and discuss Reiki. We have now come full circle. A spiritual path nurtures the spirit and spirituality is the practice of nurturing the spirit and  the soul. Living itself could be said to be the ultimate spiritual journey as it nourishes both the soul and the spirit to some capacity. Reiki is a spiritual practice and so it nurtures the spirit of the person. It enhances the practitioner’s spirit, because they connect to the source of the spirit. That is where the energy of life comes from and it is that energy that the practitioner connects too. It is that energy that the person both the practitioner and the patient or client engages with. That energy feeds the person on all levels. It feeds the body, the soul, the mind, the emotions and the spirit of the person. It enhances the person on all levels of their being. That is why it is a spiritual practice and that is why it is the very best it can be, and to be a spiritual practice does not make it less than but more than. Reiki is very effective and this is its effectiveness. Reiki connects to the source of life and it connects the person to that source, both practitioner and patient also. Reiki draws energy from that source.

We all get to choose both our focus and our path in life. We all get to choose many things each day. We get to choose if we bother to think about things and analyse things or not. All aspects of the person are important as is the method of feeding and nourishing each aspect that we choose. Each choice is a road ahead and a way forward, a method of engaging with life itself. Each choice we make is an opportunity to enhance the many aspects of ourselves.

What will you choose today? You have at the heart of your being free will and choice to do as you please.

Heart Energy

ThinkstockPhotos-82663378Love Energy

In the previous blog David Brown talked about the heart and its condition in relation to compassion and love. He explained how we can make sure we keep our own heart in good order. He talked about our feelings and emotions and the link they have with the heart.  He felt compelled to discuss this in the light of the recent killings in Paris. We talk in terms of being “stone hearted” or “broken hearted” and “cold hearted” in relation to emotions. This is because we store our emotions in the heart. The heart keeps our blood pumping around our body but it has a much more important job to do than that.

Universal Energy force of nature

The focus of the discussion that David and I are having with our readership is one of energy and the importance of it to the mind, body, emotions and spiritual aspect of the person. We have tried to illustrate the fact that universal energy is impact on all levels of your being and life. No more so than the emotional and spiritual aspect of the person.

We have said in many blogs that we take universal energy into our body and this energy feeds all aspects of our person and being. This may seem confusing, ridiculous, inconsequential or just plain not important to you. This single truth is of immense importance to your life and being. This subtle energy of which I speak, which you can just ignore if you so choose, will do many things for your being and life condition. To understand this fact and to act on it means that you have control over many aspects of your life, health and future.

A gift from the Universe

On a physical level this energy is electricity and magnetism but on a spiritual level it is the breath of life itself and a gift from the universe. It feeds your body, your life and being on all levels. David talked in his blog about taking this energy into your heart. I understand that for some people reading this, what he is saying to you may escape you.

In the wake of the Paris atrocities that blog and its message may well seem trivial. There is nothing trivial about that message, it is far more profound a message than it may seem at first glance. We are taught to see ourselves as separate one from the other by society and religion. We are separated on so many grounds. We separate on ideas; ideals, religion, politics, country of origin; ethnicity and skin colour are some of the factors that are used.

No Separation

In truth there is no separation between any of us. We are one people, the human people of the human family. That is our connection one to the other. We are one race, the human race. We have one home, the earth. This should be obvious to each of us but it is not so for most of us. Look around at the state we are all in at this point in time. So much hate, anger and killing on the grounds of things that seem important yet are inconsequential when looked at that through the lens of what truly connects us. Religion is not important unless you make it so. How we treat each other is important no matter what we may say or do. How we treat each other as part of the human family is of paramount importance. We have all been thrown into life for a time to live, love and grow. How we live, love and grow is important for at the heart of that importance is compassion for each other. Without human feeling and connection there can be no compassion.

Compassion starts with empathy

Compassion starts in the hearts of men. It is through empathy and seeing the other person as part of you that we have compassion. Seeing the humanity in the other person does not start and end in the intellect but it is more about a feeling in the heart of mankind.  When we connect heart to heart what do religion or ideas matter? We are connected by a greater force than any of those. We are connected through the energy of the heart.

If we feel others as part of ourselves and love them as ourselves we cannot harm them for we harm ourselves.

It is when we see others as different or less than ourselves that we can do harm. To separate the other person is to separate a part of ourselves. This is what “being spiritual” means. This is what spiritual connection is. It is a connection one to the other through the heart of you.

Heart connection is a wisdom and truth

Ideas and teachings come and go. There are some things that are universally valid and therefore unchanging.  Humanity’s connection through the heart is one such wisdom. It is a constant of the universe and will never change for man. When we go to pray, or talk to God or align ourselves with one religion or the other, we are seeking a strengthening of our human connection through God. I do not wish to get into discussion here on what God is or isn’t or if he exists. That is not the point of this blog. This blog is explaining there is a universal energy that ties us all together, and we can draw on this energy to strengthen our own connection to each other.

We must look to the condition of our own hearts first and condemn others if we must second. I read an article this week about a Muslim lady who was attacked verbally by a man who brought her to tears. How is this man any different from the terrorists? He was terrorising a woman who was peacefully and lawfully going about her daily life in her own country.

I remember and lived through racial abuse in the past in Britain. We have moved past that time and we should all be proud of that. We should all pat ourselves on the back for our own tolerance and sense of humanity. Britain has come such a long way. I have not walked down any British street for decades and been racially abused. To all of my country men and women who have worked hard so that I can have done that, I would like to say a personal and special thank you.

Taking care of freedom

Let’s all take care. Let’s all take care of each other and keep this the country we all wish to live in. Let’s keep our sense of humanity for that is part of what the terrorists hate about us; our wish for tolerance of each other because they have none. Freedom is an important part of a healthy human being. Being free to think and act in a loving and kind manner and to add positivity to life and the lives of others.

Let us make sure we keep our humanity and do whatever we need to do to stop this madness from taking a moment more of our precious lives. Life should be about love and laughter not killing and hate.  To keep the love in our own hearts healthy use meditation or just contemplation and bring in good energy into the heart.

Peace and Love Lynette.

In our next blog we are going to share a life changing meditation with you.

Beyond Religion

Compassion is beyond religion- it goes to the root of our humanity & nature.

Compassion is beyond religion- it goes to the root of our humanity & nature.

Gandhi said that he was a Christian, Hindu, Muslim, Jew and Buddhist.  It implies a devout connection to principles that encompass all world religions, without a commitment to any particular religion.  No one can say that Gandhi did not embrace principles of respect, love and compassion in the actions in his life.  He believed in these principles.  He used them as the guiding principles in all his actions, not least during his non- violent protest of British presence in India and its subsequent independence.  He inspired Martin Luther King in his quest for equality for all peoples across the world in a non- violent form.

These men lived for their causes.  Their respect, love and compassion can never be destroyed.  That lives on for respect, love and compassion are founding principles of the universe.

Karen Armstrong, a former nun and founder of the Charter of Compassion, has researched the world’s religions extensively and she has distilled the common thread that links them all: compassion (see her TED talk: My Wish: The Charter for Compassion).  She uses this principle as the founding concept of her charter that encourages individuals, communities and nations to use compassion in their daily lives to improve the world (www.charterforcompassion.org).

Compassion comes from connection- to the universe, to the planet, to the animals and to our fellow human beings and humanity at large.  With that connection we understand that we are all one, from the same source.  If we respect other people we respect our self and if we hurt another we hurt our self.  That has been the message of great leaders such as Jesus, Buddha, Mohammad, Gandhi and Martin Luther King throughout human history.

Humanity separates one from the other on many issues and factors. Humanity will separate on the grounds of colour of skin, race, religion, politics and location to name a few. These things are not important, but humanity makes them so. We are all bound through a golden thread, and that thread is our humanity itself. We are all one family of human existence.

Living one’s life with compassion is a choice and each individual has free will to do so. Intellectually understanding the concept of compassion is good but truly making compassion part of our own living experience on every level is even better.

I do not subscribe to any religion in particular. I do not feel I need to do so. I know that I am a product of the universe in which I live and which created me. I know that through that I have a connection to the universe and that it is possible to consciously strengthen my connection to it.  I can do it through prayer, meditation and attunement. These all enhance spiritual connection.  All of these methods will strengthen my connection to the universe and deepen my feeling of connection to and compassion for all that exists. A Charter of Compassion maybe a good step forward.

There is nothing wrong with subscribing to a set of principles dictated by a particular religion; however we can live our lives as a good a decent person even if we do not. That is what I try to do. I try to be a good person rather than subscribing to principles laid down by any religion.  There is an argument that religion is the basis of our moral behaviour, but I believe there is a moral code built into us by nature itself.  This can be seen in animals’ behaviour and many instances of compassion that they too have been seen to display.

We can respect everyone as that is a choice and decision we make. Love and compassion grow out of respect. Respect first, love and compassion follow. No one needs to love anyone. We all need to behave with respect and kindness. That is what makes the world safe. Love is a very personal emotion. Love for another person will grow out of their actions to us. Love cannot be conjured up out of thin air. We earn love by our own kind and respectful actions to others. We can respect each other as fellow human beings. We can show compassion and kindness by choice.

We cannot love all human beings all of the time. However we can respect them and behave with compassion regardless of how we feel about them. We can offer them water when they are thirsty and food when they are hungry, and clean clothes or some finance if they need that.  There merely needs to be respect for their humanity to do that.

We all have a place in life and have to live together and find peace and harmony amongst ourselves for this existence to work for the whole. How best can we do that? To respect my fellow man means that I do not harm him. I allow him the freedom to live his life in peace and hope that he has the grace to do the same for me.

In recent weeks we have witnessed the Charlie Hebdo shootings in Paris, France.  We have to learn that we cannot kill each other just because we do not agree with each other.  If we do not agree with each other we can at least respect the other person’s right to life and their point of view, even when we think they are very wrong.

A person must have a desire to respect others.  Without that there can be no love and compassion. Respect comes from understanding the necessity and validity of behaving and living in harmony with those principles. There must be a benefit for them. The benefit is harmony and personal safety.

Compassion, respect and a deeper understanding of our place in the universe as well as our role in the universe are the foundation of these actions.

The message of love and compassion is preached by religion, but religion is not its source.  Compassion can be seen in nature.  There is no religion in nature, save the religion of living in harmony with the natural forces of the natural world.  I subscribe to that principle, to live in harmony with the natural forces of the earth and the universe.

God is the natural forces of the earth and the universe.  World religions are divided on God’s true nature and it is not my purpose to enter into a debate about that here.  My idea of God embraces all the world’s religions’ visions of God.  I may not agree with the details, but I respect the views each religion has on God.

There is a natural order to life of which we are a part. All religions have a purpose and that purpose is to light the way to God, higher spiritual connection and those higher forces of the universe. Their purpose is also to give us an understanding of what life is and our purpose within this life. This can be achieved without the aid of religion just as easily, if a person has the mind to do so.

Understanding ones place in the order of life and your personal spiritual path helps to kindle respect and compassion for everyone regardless of religion and other people’s beliefs. It is important for us all to live in tranquillity both with our self and fellow man.

We have a connection to God and the universal forces. God is the universe. Our connection to each other stems from that source of power. The universe created us and we are part of it. We are always part of that source however we can become emotionally disconnected from it. We can also be unaware of its true power and influence on us. We can draw on this great power of the universe for strength, guidance, spiritual and emotional sustenance. We can use it to show us the true nature of respect, love and compassion.

Through desire anyone can consciously enhance their connection to all of the universal forces which will in turn show the way to a life of respect, love and compassion.

Actions are Energy

523260231Thoughts are energy

This week has been a shocking and difficult one. It left me shaken and shocked. The recent events in Paris have left a lot of people both disturbed and upset. I have spoken to a few people this week that have expressed to me sentiments that I am feeling myself. I feel that these events have touched people in a way that the occurrences in the past maybe have not. Perhaps it is because it seems so unreasonable that so many people died for what seems to the western free mind as a simple innocent little thing. The cover of a magazine should never provoke such rage and hatred in anyone. I cannot see that anything can justify the depraved slaughter of people.   The Charlie Hebdo magazine had a legal right to publish the cover and so as far as I can see they legally did nothing wrong. Did they do anything morally wrong? That is the question now I feel?

Beliefs are strongly held ideas that are thought to have weight and truth.  At the end of the day they are still only ideas. They have fluidity. Even a fixed idea that is a firmly held belief can be changed in an instant. It merely requires the desire to change that idea. Ideas are thoughts. Thoughts are energy.

Brutal actions however cannot be changed so easily. Once we commit a brutal act it unleashes something negative into the world and it will then have a life of its own. We let a Genie out of a bottle and once out it will not go back until it has reached its own allotted time. We never know what that time is as the Genie will keep going as long as people give it the energy and power to do so. With every malicious or murderous act that follows, the genie is given more power, until people have run out of energy and the pain of so much death takes its toll on the hearts, minds, souls and lives of those who are witnessing or experiencing the negative forces that are at play.

I had to spend some time thinking about the events that have led up to this disturbing time. We had 9/11, Iraq, Al Quieda and now ISIS.  I tell you straight as a person of peace I really try not to allow all of this turmoil into my life on any level.  The human race is a warring race. They kill each other at any opportunity. They separate on the grounds of any old rubbish.  Ideas are fluid and not fixed. We move on emotionally and we change and develop daily. What we do is experiment with life trying to find perfection. There is no perfection.

Human beings will kill each other on the grounds of the most inconsequential things as well as deeply held beliefs. The trouble with beliefs is they are personal and subjective. It does not matter how deeply we feel that our beliefs are correct- there is always the possibility that they may not be correct. So if we kill a person over beliefs no matter how deeply we feel we are correct and in the right, what if we are not? What we are left with is a pile of dead people that we cannot resurrect. This is a futile and dangerous path.

We are one and we are free

All human beings are one. The binding force in humanity is its humanity. Religion will never bind us. It cannot. We will never all agree on religion, politics or any idea or ideology. I believe that in humanity’s current state and way of thinking it will not happen. It cannot be brought about by force either. As I said force will only allow something to be for a time. People have a natural need to be free in mind, body and soul. It is a natural condition to the human state.

Religious beliefs

Religious beliefs have a place, but not a murderous one. To be religious or walk any spiritual path it is one of peace. I just cannot reconcile blood on the hands of a person who has words of love and peace on his lips. The image and actions do not work. We are human and as such are capable of many things. We are capable of great things and have had many great moments in our history. Killing and fighting are never the moments that we have held or can hold up as our greatest achievements. They are always the lowest of what we can do to and for each other.

Freedom of speech is important as it allows all sides and all people to have a voice. However, we do not need to have religious, political or racial hate. Hate is hate no matter what umbrella it comes to us under. Each human being in my view should be allowed to worship or not and in the way they choose. It is good to have variety and possibilities.  They help one grow and keeps life engaging and unpredictable.  Options are a good thing. Everyone has a point of view on religion and all are equally valid. We must live together with the other person’s point of view and respect them and their right to have it. We must not silence their voice on the grounds that it does not fit in with our own.  Obviously if a person is being directly provocative and wanting to incite human hatred for the purpose of bringing harm to the person on any grounds of religion, race, or politics it must be stopped.

Keeping ourselves in check

Don’t get me wrong.  Beliefs have their place but we all need to keep them in check and if they are sacred, keep them so. If we sully our own sacred beliefs with the blood of another human being, how sacred are they now?

When is the human race going to learn from its past mistakes? There is no perfection of people.  Perhaps there is no perfection in God.  If perfection is an endlessly moving goal post, how can we say that anything is right or wrong?  Things are as they are in this moment, a chance for perfection and then the universe moves on. There is only the wish for perfection and the road to perfection. Perfection itself does not exist. In pushing forward on the road for perfection we change and develop. Hopefully we get development and something better for our efforts.

Violence has never solved anything. It has never helped us at all. It will quieten the argument for some time and then it re-emerges at a later date. People have grown more violent and oblivious to pain as far as I can see. I may be wrong but that is how it seems to me.  I don’t hear too many people saying let’s walk a road of peace. I hear people say let’s kill, and I am hearing more of that and it scares and unsettles me.

Doves of peace

I say let’s not kill. I say let’s have peace. I say let’s symbolically let 3,000,000 doves of peace loose to help this situation and as they fly away have their positive energy touch the world. That is what I will do. Please feel free to join me in your own way and spread your positive intent for peace. I shall go into my own personal peace and ask for this symbolically to be so. What harm can that do? Prayers of love and peace can do no harm. People do harm if they employ selfish, malicious, or murderous intent.

I hope the universe hears my request. Respect, Peace, and love to the entire human race. Walk a peaceful path.  It is the only one that is binding and lasting.

Christmas Reflection

A gift is a token of our mutual connection

A gift is a token of our mutual connection

What a beautiful time of year this is, the festivities are almost over and now we have time for reflection. Christmas is a time for reflection on Christ’s message which is one of peace and to have a giving nature, and the Jewish festival of Chanukah is the festival of light and a celebration of god’s power and grace.

In the darkness and cold of winter, light and peace bring warmth and brightness to our hearts.

This time of year holds a serious message for us all and I think these festivals represent the core of the human condition and the giving nature of the Universe.

The candles and lights remind us of the human spirit, and that the human spirit has its own light. The Universal source is the source of that light, it nourishes that flame within.

The giving of presents and the acts of sharing and reflection remind us that it is important to have gratitude within us. Nothing in life is our right; we must carve life out for ourselves. Life gives us what we need as long as we engage in life appropriately.  We seek out gifts to thank people for being part of our lives and for sharing with us.

Life is an exchange of human interaction and what greater gift is there than the meaningful exchange of time, energy and experience to enhance the lives of all concerned?

The use of light when celebrating festivals the world over is a testament to the power of love and compassion that resides in the human heart and at the core of the Universal Spirit.  It is celebrated the world over, and for a short period it is in the fore front of our minds.  It can only be a good thing to have light and peace and giving in the fore front of our minds each year to reacquaint us all with those concepts.

Our lives are full of modern wants and needs.  However, perhaps we should ask ourselves is this the point of life, or is there a more fundamental and real point to existence? The Christmas message is one of gratitude, knowledge, understanding, hope, joy and peace to all. Christ came to light the way for us all and so that we would know what the light is and we would carry that light in our hearts always.

It is always pleasant to receive a gift from a treasured family member or friend. The gift is just a token of something more. It is a token of their connection to us and us to them. The human story is one of connection and that we are all bound together in our humanity. We should be truly grateful for those that bind us close to them. We should always remember to show gratitude for the love that is given to us by others. Our life would be the less without it. In the Chanukah story, god showed devotion to humanity by keeping the ever- lasting light alight even though there was not enough oil to keep it burning.  The wise men traveled far to honour the Christ child and in that act they showed us humility for Christ’s message, the Christmas message, the message of the light.

Giving the Christmas Message

461259677

 Seasons Greetings,

Christmas is more than a time of giving.  We all rush around in a mad frenzy choosing and buying gifts for our family and friends for the big day.

It is the time of year that retailers love the most as they do the majority of their business at Christmas. Each year retailers wait with baited breath, as the last sales are totalled. They have sweat on their brow, I am sure of it, whilst they wait to know if sales are up or down. Each year we all get to hear via the media how well or badly the retailers have done.  I am not sure why we should care and especially at Christmas. For retailers Christmas is first and foremost about sales and profit.

I wonder too what Christmas means to the average person as Christ is inched out of his own birthday bit by bit. Some schools are now changing their practise on the nativity and have removed the play from their Christmas activity. Also, some schools have now changed what they call Christmas and are calling it the winter festival instead of Christmas. I feel if that is the case let’s just get rid of the whole thing altogether. If we are not celebrating the birth of Christ, what are we celebrating exactly?

How can Christ be a bad thing? This was a child that was born a special person. Some people are born to be special. Others have to work and become special. Surely if nothing else we should celebrate the specialness. Three wise kings came to celebrate Jesus’s birth. They brought him three gifts. They gave him gold to symbolise his high status, even thought he was of a humble human family. Gold is a special and precious metal given to special people or for special occasions. This was given to him to honour what was special in him.

The second gift that was given to Christ was frankincense. Frankincense is an interesting substance that has been traditionally used for spiritual ceremonies in religion and spiritual practices. It is an aromatic resin. This resin comes from the Boswellia tree.  This resin has a particular and pleasant smell. It smells quite sweet and a little bit musty at the same time. This gift signified the spiritual nature of the child and the special spiritual gift which was his teaching and special message that he would give to the world of man.

The third gift that the kings brought to the Baby Jesus was Myrrh. This too is a resin derived from a tree. This comes from the Commiphora myrrh tree. This substance was traditionally used by people to prepare the dead for burial. This gift signified Jesus’s short life and premature death. The kings were saying this child is special and he would do good work for the world and only have a very short life. The fact that these wise kings travelled far to honour the baby Jesus and brought such well thought out gifts is the reason we give gifts at Christmas. The birth of this special person and what he went onto achieve is the reason we have celebrated Christmas for about two thousand years. I am not sure what will be left if we take Christ out of Christ’s own mass.

Each year at this time we all give and receive gifts. How many of us give gifts as a celebration of Christ’s birth and life? How many of us concern ourselves with the true reason we are celebrating at this time of year? Or is it just that we are all full of the expectation of the material gain, as well as the spirits that we will consume? Is that more important to most of us? Maybe I am getting old and cynical.  Spiritual sustenance is like bread for the body. Good eating and good nutrition. Christ had a spiritual message to enhance our spiritual well-being. Perhaps we should all take a little time out from the mistletoe and wine and reflect inwardly to nourish our flame within. Seems like the most appropriate time of year to do so to me.

I wish you a happy Christmas and the best ever New Year, and would like to thank everyone who has been reading our blogs and supporting our work over the past two years and for being so fab.

Have a great Christmas and don’t consume too many spirits. Stay safe.

Lynette.

The Magic

510536519The natural forces of the earth flow along natural pathways as do the forces of the universe. The earth and the universe are one. They are each part of a whole that makes the universe. All forces of the universe are natural to it as they are all part of it. Energy takes many forms. All is fluid energy and solidity is an illusion. There is magic in that. We see something with our eyes and we say it must be so as I have seen it for myself. Life is an illusion. It is here for the briefest of moments and then it is gone. It is not set in stone. It is not permanent. The permanence is an illusion. That is a part of the natural order of life. We are born we live and then the body dies. There is a natural flow of energy forces at work in that plan.

Not all that we see with our naked eye is real. We say there is nothing there because we cannot see anything there. We know that all is not seen with the naked eye. There is a world of energy and energy forces that are unseen to the naked eye and they are there and at work none the less. Just because I cannot see a micro-organism with my naked eye does not mean it is not there.

Air surrounds us. Wind is the force of moving air. We feel the force of air rushing around us. We can’t see air. We can feel it sometimes. We feel it as it enters our lungs and gives us sustained life. This is all part of the magic of life.

There are other energy forces around us that are unseen. These forces can be felt and seen in certain circumstances. They are subtle energy forces that can be interacted with. These energy forces are both positive and negative.

There is an electromagnetic energy around us that we can draw into our bodies. This happens naturally and we can amplify the energy intake at will. This energy feeds  our body like air feeds the lungs. It is gentle and subtle and is not easily felt.

Each person has an electromagnetic energy field that surrounds and penetrates the body called the aura. We all feel each other’s aura, but we don’t all see it. Some people can see the aura of other people but not many can do so naturally. With some teaching and practice it can be seen as fuzzy energy about an inch or two from the outside of the body.

There are other unseen energies that are always around us. We can feel them often but as we don’t see them with our eyes those feelings are often dismissed. If you go into the quiet of your being and concentrate by sending your aura out to those forces you will feel them.

As there are positive energies so too there are negative ones. There are always opposite forces. They exist because the universe must be balanced. As there are energies that are good for the body’s health and well-being so too there are energies that are the opposite. Positive and negative exists throughout the universe on all levels.

People are an energy force within the universe and they too can be positive or negative. Our influence upon the universe can be one or the other. We send energy out into the universe and the quality of that energy will have an effect upon the whole. We are part of the universal whole as an energy force. We often think of the elements of the earth as being separate from each other. We say that people are separate or that countries are separate. Are they? Where does that separation lay? If a person, an area or a country sends out large amounts of poisonous energy waste it affects the whole. It pollutes the immediate and the wider environment, of which people are a part. We do not understand all that there is to understand about the universe or even our own environment, the earth and so how can any of us say how much we affect the whole. We only understand a part of the workings of the earth and the universe.

All is explainable with logic and reason as long as we take into account all the facts that come from experience, intellect and intuition. There is nothing that does not have a logical explanation. Sometimes the true explanation does not tie in with our own understanding of how things are in reality at this moment. Life and the universe are full of illusion. What we think we see sometimes we do not and what we think is not around us is. That is the magic of the universe.

Taken from “Feel the Power” a first steps guide to connecting to the universe. Which is to be published shortly by The Hancock Press. Written by Lynette it is a guide to connecting to the energy forces of the universe.
